Hello

I was wondering what your opinion is in terms of activity during say a 21 day water only fast?

Should one just lay down and rest with eyes closed as much as possible or ?

Why and why not? i know people say if you are active you will start using protein as fuel instead of fat because its easier cause of gluconeogenesis or something :p

I remember so well a patient of mine who came in practically on a wheelchair, and on the 45th day of his water fast was hiking up the mountains.. I for one do NOT consider the passive fast healthy for the majority of people.

Fasting MOBILIZES toxins, you need to ELIMINATE them also and for that, active fasting has proven itself vastly superior. Personally I do more exercise on fasting days than on eating days. That's natural. An animal that has just eaten does not need to find food.. thus our genes are designed such that our muscles are able to be more active in the fasting state.

Activity protects your muscles, as it "signals" that these are not redundant tissues to be used for fuel. Proteins can indeed be used for gluconeogenesis but if you pursue an active fast, the massage step helps mobilize fats so that proteins are actually spared.

Thanx. Hmm all the other fasting clinics i have seen recommend complete rest.

In terms of an active fast could you tell me what you mean. Active as much as possible as living a normal life? sitting on a computer, walking around etc?

Or just active as in one session or two a day then the rest relax?

Could you please tell me how a day looks like for people that you fast? i mean people you fast that are longer then 5-6 days so more like long fasting.

Also really im very dizzy when i get up and stuff because i lay down so much. Im on day 9 of my water fast now and i just want to slim down and get rid of my water retention problem wich probably has to do with sodium or something retaining so i need to get that out and the exess water.

Please this was very cool to hear and i would like to hear more because its SOOO boring to just lay there and do nothing.

In terms of beeing active and stuff, you mean weight lifting also or just walking and do some sprinting like you descibe in your book?

How many clients have you had and what has the results been in terms of bodyfat loss, type of health they regained and muscle retain or loss?

I know many clinics recommend rest; this is in response to an instinct that, after several years of good solid scientific research, I discarded. Before implementing the active fast approach, some patients became sick enough to be hospitalized. Since starting the active fast, we have had no adverse incidents.. in more than 10 000 fasts.

The elimination cycle should be done at least before retiring and definitely before breaking a fast but one can repeat them as many times as you feel up to. Some cycles take a few minutes, some may take up to 2 hours.. as we move from step to step based on biofeedback.

My patients "fill the day" with cycles, starting with exercise and ending with rest. So some would fit 2 cycles into a day and others 5 to 8.. Your dizzyness is most likely due to toxins in circulation.. you'll likely note a big improvement after one or 2 cycles.

The kind of activity depends on what you like and on your kind of fitness. But do try to use all your muscles so they can all be protected from being targeted as "food"..

Only about 10 000 of my about 40 000 patients have fasted for more than a day and the longest under good supervision was 45 days. Body composition measurement confirmed increase in muscle mass in those that were active: So they actually converted fat to muscle!

OMG that is AMAAAAZING Andre. Im on day 9 as i said im gonna for sure start to exersice.

So just treat my day as normal with just doing the 5 step method and do some weight training or walking, cycling etc also during the day? and just treat the day as normal as when i was eating?

Wouldnt one loose alot more weight also now? i know the resting fasting clinics say 1 lbs a day is what they are doing.

How is your weight/fat loss going when your active as what have results beeing with your patients?

In terms of massaging will a skin brusher that the "raw food" people use be good enough for massaging?

Can i just use my hands and massage the body or certain parts of it that i reach :D

The phases, dear Super, can last from a few seconds to an hour or more..

- you exercise until you have a "hyperdinamic" circulation;
- you massage this into your skin
- you activate the sweat glands to separate the toxins from the nutrients
- You send the purified blood back to the organs by cooling down the skin and
- You stabilize the whole system by resting.

It is impossible to allocate a time to each, as I have explained many times in these forums and in the book "Health Won" which also explains a lot more about the background to this.

Timing yourself will just override biofeedback..

The volume of sweat is not as important as that you do it. Several shorter episodes (As part of the full cycle each time) are usually better than one long one.

Please note this is not my site.. I just volunteer my time here. Do pose your enquiry to the administrator.

Generally speaking yes. Men typically lose about 1 kg per day, girls about 500g. But there are large variations, with some people actually gaining weight due to fat being transformed to muscle..

Also i really really hope i can loose that last stubborn fat around my hips, ass and thighs. No matter what ive done in the past that fat stays on. Fat or water or what ever it is, so frustrating. And im a guy and i store it where females do.

Any tips for that during the fast ? :D
