I recently completed a 20 day water fast. I have now began under eating (500 calories a day) & I have increased my cardio workouts. I was told by a trainer I am losing muscle & not fat. I was wondering is what the trainer said a theory or fact? I have been somewhat paranoid since being informed I was losing muscle :-/

Please ask your trainer, dear Apple, how this was measured.

It is rather irresponsible to make pronouncements like this without figures to back you up.

I did somatometric evaluations on hundreds of patients during a fast and often found an increase in muscle mass.. not necessarily volume, as some voluminous muscles actually contain a lot of fat between the fibers.
