Hey everyone,

I am about to embark on a 21-day water fast. I have done shorter fasts (4-5 days) in the past, but usually I included other liquids, such as small quantities of juices and naturally flavored waters, just for taste.
In the past two weeks I have been extremely stressed out with work and life in general, and since I am an emotional eater to the T, I have been eating way more than my body needs and straining my digestive system far too much. I feel lethargic and horrible about my lack of control, and I can feel my jeans fitting a tad too snug.
I'm hoping that this fast will help get me back on track. More than anything else, I wish to accomplish a sense of self-mastery throughout this fast. But if I lose a few pounds along the way I won't complain ;)

I would very much appreciate some feedback or advice from others who have fasted this long before. I can usually last a few days pretty easily, but after that, especially at NIGHT, I always get this feeling of insatiable hunger and it drives me crazy. I'm sure part of this is "true" hunger, but knowing myself and my emotional eating history, I'm sure a large part of this hunger is just wanting to eat in order to distract myself from having to deal with my emotions and all the stress in my life. If anyone has any advice on how to deal with this, please share! :) Thanks so much

Best wishes on your endeavour dear Ajay.

It is likely that your "insatiable hunger" at night might represent the release of toxicity from your fat tissues as these are used for energy. Your body "knows" that if you eat, you will make new fat so the toxins will not be released.

To minimize these feelings you need to minimize the concentration of toxins in circulation. You can do so by retaining/rebuilding the fat (eating) or by eliminating the toxins.

The latter is obviously the preferred route. To this end I advise you to do several detox cycles (see the 5-step elimination cycle under the FAQ's), and in particular an intense one just before you go to sleep. The last step is rest anyway..

Thank you for your quick reply Fast Doctor :)

I am going to mostly rest today since I had a very strenuous workout yesterday (13-mile race), but tomorrow if I have more energy I'll try the 5-step elimination cycle and post an update about how it goes!
