Getting ready for a 14 day water fast to start April 5, 2010. I have 2 weeks off work which is great. Just starting to plan my daily routine for the fast.

Good luck and let us know how it goes. Those 2 weeks off will help for sure.

1 more sleep and then I begin 14 days of 'Protoplasmic cleanup' while taking in a little water as needed. Very excited & very ready on beginning this and look forward to the physiological rest.
I'll be recording on this website various things like weight and the general status of gluconeogenesis via urine readings of ketone bodies. I will be doing moderate exercise and daily jet tub mineral baths along with photon therapy (specific light wavelengths) unless it's gets nice out side then I'll go for a little burning UV light (-;

Analysis:
1. Urine pH 5.0
This is the lowest pH (most acid urine) we consider normal.. pH of up to 8 is routinely found.

2. Specific Gravity 1.030
This is the highest density that urine gets to in healthy people.. indicating maximal water resorption by the distal tubules in the kidney, in an effort to conserve water.

3. Ketone: Negative.
Thus no fat breakdown at this stage.

4. Glucose: Negative.
Glucose only spill over the boundaries of a normal kidney if it exceeds 10 millimol per liter in the blood.. a level at which we typically diagnose diabetes.

5. Ascorbic Acid: Negative.
I still don't quite understand why Vitamin C is measured in urine.. likely to show up in people over"supplementing"

6. Protein: Negative
Normal kidneys hold back all protein so protein in urine would typically indicate kidney disease... although a large portion of the population "leaks" a bit of protein.

See if you can get hold of some of the newer 10-criteria urine dipsticks.. they check inter alia also for Bilirubin or Urobilinogen, which is diverted from the liver to the kidneys once your digestive system goes on "holiday"..

Best wishes for a good fast!

André

I also have those readings - but did not know what the meanings were. I'll take note of those also now.
Thanks,

Looks good! Bear in mind that the Specific Gravity is "calculated" on some chemicals present in typical urine.

At least now there are ketones, thus you are definitely breaking down fat. The bile has not backed up into the liver (yet) seeing that the Urobilinogen is negative.

So your ketones are slowly creeping up on the scale.. you are definitely catabolizing fat at this stage. I still don't understand why a urine dipstick would measure vitamin C..

Any idea why Protein would suddenly show up in the urine after 3 days of water fasting? Thanks

Day 4 - Felt some hunger and still week. Working full time for 2 companies & part time University so a long fast is tough with the phone ringing and emails never stop. (-:
Fast Ends. Will do another 3-4 day fast next week to let the body finish what it started.
