Ben created the topic: Excessive need for water
I'm on day 12 of a water fast. Starting on day 10, I have seemed to need much more water than the previous days. On previous days I was able to get by with perhaps 1.5 to 2 liters a day. My water intake has at least tripled, maybe a little more. Today the need for water has increased even more. If I go more than 15 or 20 minutes, I will have to have at least a glass of water or my mouth goes totally dry. It's not unbearable by any means, but I thought it was a very curious phenomena. Anyone have any thoughts or opinions? Thanks for any advice or information regarding this.

Maybe your supply of water from your fat as mainly been used up so your body needs to get it water from else where only a guess or have you been exercising harder and sweating so you need more water because of this.

It's almost always best to listen to your body if it is craving more water give it to it, just don't listen to it if it keeps asking for junk food.

Cory, you might be on to something with the water from fat being used up. However, I do still have a good bit of fat left on my waist in front. Today, the issue seems to have gone away. My water needs are much less. I do listen to my body and drink if it requires it, I was curious to see if anyone had had the same symptoms in a longer fast.

I don't eat junk food, to be honest the last time I ate junk food on a regular basis was over 2 years ago. For this fast, I actually ate about 90% raw fruits and vegetables for a week before to prepare.

My personally favorite junk food in England was the chip shop chips and pineapple fritters (no proper chip shops in this country but there are a lot of places selling banana fritters), I rarely eat junk food nowadays anyway only on the odd occasion was just saying that's one craving best to avoid.

I do have some things like desserts on special occasions such as birthdays or holidays, but I do eliminate them altogether otherwise. I'm not perfect, I did have cheese cake during Thanksgiving and Christmas and again recently during a vacation in June, but I'm very sensitive to sugar and bread, as the side effects are that they make me very hungry again within an hour or two. It's not conducive to intermittent fasting lifestyle that I'm trying to adhere to right now.

I think it is very important to drink according to thirst when doing a water fast. During my 25-day water fast, I drank an average of 2-3 liters per day. I am 5-6 and 120 lbs. There were days that I experienced the same thirst as you describe. I have a male friend who drank 1.5 gallons a day during a particular fast, because that is how much his body wanted during that particular fast. So, I do not think you have anything to worry about.

Thanks for your input Esmee. I really wasn't worried about it, I was more curious about what internal processes might be occurring that would prompt such an increase in demand for water. I wasn't exercising on those days that the demand increased. Today the effect has been much reduced and I'm closer to my normal demand for water.
