This makes me really want to fast my heart out. My brother just pulled out of the 15-miler and that honestly makes me want to start my lengthy fast now! If he's not running the event in two weeks, then I don't want to either. I really, really am dying to do a long drawn-out fast that will pack a punch on my toxicity! I know I shouldn't set a time but I want to do a three-weeker! I feel like I need it.

Sooo, in between this post and my last, I found out my Thyroid Stimilating Hormone (TSH) is 16.5. I was hoping for normal range. However, I have noticed in the last month since cessation of regular fasting that I am growing more tired, losing more hair, ect. I seriously think the possibility (if not wishfully thinking probability) is that my swing into the overindulgance mode has pushed me back into a thyroiditis.

I'd like to use this new information to start NOW! I want to kick this thing to the curb!

8 months after giving birth to my second child, I had a TSH of 94. Then two months later, it was 23. Now it's 16.5. Normal is considered to be 3 or less with < 5 being borderline.

Overall, I feel alright, but have in the last three weeks really lost some steam in terms of being able to wake up early. Also, I have noticed a cycle of my heart revving itself up to increase my caloric burn rate after sessions of overeating... my thought is that my thyroid might have been responsible for this... I don't really understand the thyroid's role in metabolism and if it can respond acutely (within hours) to metabolic challenges or if it is a more chronic controller.

SIGH!

OK there's been some improvement.. alternatively, the system is burning out. You do need a full thyroid function test with TSH, T4, T3 and thyroid antibodies, perhaps even TRF (Hypothalamic Thyroid Releasing Factor.. this stimulates TSH release).

What I often suggest in cases like this is that you do indeed take thyroid replacement therapy (T4) for a while, allowing the thyroid system to "rest". Almos tlike what your digestive system does when you fast. This might even allow it to return to normal function. But this advice is sub judice awaiting the other test results.

All my posts are "generic", based on my opinions and experiences only and are not intended to replace the advice of your own licensed medical practitioner.

Thank you so much, Andre! I very much appreciate your followup!

I will do as I said in the other thread,.... fast and proceed with med as a break for the thyroid.
