I'm a 55-year-old Israeli, I'm a teacher, and I live in France.

I've been studying the litearture on fasting for several months now.
I've also practised two or so 2-day fasts and one 3-day fast.
The fasts went well, except for one, at the end of which I overate.

My goal is to experiment and find out how well I take to it.
If things keep going well, I mean to get to my first 21-day fast in the summer, with another 7-day fast on the way in April. But this is my excited self talking, and I've been trying to hold my horses.

Over the last half-year or so, I've been practising a no-breakfast intermittent fasting (IF) food style. In the last two or three weeks, I've drifted into a narrower feeding window, something like four or five hours in the evening.

At this point, a week before my pre-fast, to start next week, I've been renewing with reading on fasting.
I'm really (all too) excited about the prospect.
The pre-fast will feature raw fruit and veg only, in all likelihood without breakfast, but reality will tell. I might blend them on the last two days or so before the fast.
During the fast, I hope to keep up some physical activity, such as walking, stretching and yoga. But mostly I hope to rest in a profound way. By the latter I mean little social contact, zero (job) work, lots of bed time.

I've been lucky to find a colleague who has also started fasting in the last year.
We're not very close, but it's welcome, and our common 'secret' may bring us closer together.

What are my goals?
Definitely not weight loss.
I wouldn't mind losing a bit, but that has to do with the day-in-day-out food style, not prolonged fasting.

I'm interested in improving my health.
I'm interested in the adventure and in possible spiritual growth.
Specifically, I hope to make progress with the following issues: social difficulties, a tendency to overeat and to binge, erratic and often insufficient sleep, unstable energy level, and cold fingers and toes.

I'm so glad that a forum like this exists.
I'm grateful for the attention.
Will you comment? Will be happy to share.

Jackn - thanks for sharing your intentions and health goals. It looks like you will transition beautifully into water fasting. It makes perfect sense to start small with IF, short fasts and then work your way up like you have. I wish you the best and look forward to you posting on the site and sharing your experience.

While my reading has made me comfortable with the idea of fasting, I am a novice, and confidence can only come with experience.

This is encouraging and welcome.

Thanks, Elizabeth.

Your attention and kind words help.

As you're a moderator, you must have reported this in the past. Would you care to give an idea of your fasting experience, though?
I'm also curious about this great picture, if you will.

Thanks.
Jackn

Hi Jackn, if you were referring to my picture then I am sand bathing my legs with sea shells for decoration :) Glad to know that your primary fasting objectives are not weight loss. And you have come to the right place if you want to use fasting as a tool for health improvement and I am pretty sure it can improve vitality, sleep issues and cold extremities. I fixed my cold extremities when experimenting on raw food. As for binging I would highly recommend intermittent fasting. I have personally derived fantastic benefits from alternate day eating. Although I have done a strict alternate day fast consuming only water on my non eat days for six weeks my current alternate day intermittent fasting is based on eat one day and semi fast on the second day. Semi fast is consuming herbal tea and coconut water in moderation. Which translates as very low calorific intake on the non eat day. However I would really like to go back to the more puritan version of what I coined the 010 fast/diet also known as dodo diet. (day on day off) If you search through the faq page and check out our link on intermittent fasting there is a documentary Eat Fast And Live Longer worth watching. Let me know if you do decide to fast intermittently without the evening meal.
