Waterfasting for tinnitus

Nidu created the topic: Waterfasting for tinnitus
Anyone have any experience with waterfasting and tinnitus? I recently ended a 6-day waterfast for the purpose of seeing how well I could handle it, and to, hopefully, allow for my body to do something about the noise. During the fast, I seemed to experience no complications at all. Alas, the fast didn't seem to help and/or wasn't long enough for me/my problem at this time. With some more reserves on me, and another chance to do it proper, I'll attempt a longer fast at some point, unless the noise somehow subsides. How about others out there? Any stories of your own or others to share?

Now, a few days after having broken the fast, my lips are a bit hot and slighlty irritated. I guess this might be because of the honeydews and/or piel del sapo melons I've been eating, although they were ripe (could overripeness cause it?). Anyone else get some lip-related "symptoms" from fasting, or after a fast?

I've had both your symptoms, the tinnitus and the chapped lips. I just completed a water fast of 31 days, about 1.5 days ago. Through my fast, I had symptoms such as chapped lips, dry mouth, and dry skin. I also was not able to drink enough water through to overcome these symptoms. The tinnitus was there from beginning to end for me and it hasn't abated. I too was hoping this would diminish but it wasn't among the main reasons for my fast. The chapped lips are starting to lessen now to some degree as I spent the first day eating watermelon and I've added cantelope on the second. I doubt highly that the melons are the cause of your lip issue, but more likely dehydration.

I've heard of/from some that have had some success with tinnitus and waterfasting, but there are of course different kinds of tinnitus. I've seen a few reports of success with dryfasting, but such fasting does not seem to be readily advocated around here.

Nidu, dry fasting has actually become rather popular on this site. I am currently on Day 8 of a dry fast, Milena completed 9.5 days, and many more have been doing regular short dry fasts.

Nidu, I must second Esmee's comment, you need to explore the site more. There is an intermittent dry fasting group now, and another forum on this site dedicated to dry fasting. Dry fasting is actually quite popular here and there are many experienced and dedicated dry fasters to support it.

Another thing: I didn't have a bowel movement until the sixth day, whereafter I broke the fast. The stool was remiscent of the ones I could get before switching to a vegetarian, high-fruit, high-veg diet - a bit hard, chunky, and sectioned. My last meal before the fast was a few small honeydew melons (and the evening on the day before, two heads of romaine lettuce). I'm wondering what could be the reason for the stool having been being less well-formed than usual? Not enough stimulation from fiber? Dehydration? Could it have been that some bad stuff had been mopped up and were going out with it? Stools following that one, during the refeeding, were once again well-formed.

what you have experienced is completely normal. i did not have a bowel movement until i ended my 25 day water fast, Ben did not have one until he ended his 31 day water fast. some people will have a bowel movement every single day of the fast (which I find amazing). everyone is different. i do think that a lot of what comes out is part of the detox process. you can always do an enema to help get things out if the fecal matter is too hard.

Actually, if I were to attribute what happened to my lips as a result of the fast donig some healing, although I didn't notice the irritation until one or two days after I had broken the fast, it might be that it had some relation to the two times I've messed up my lips with unripe pineappled, many, many months ago. Doing so resulted in "burned" lips, and a bit of "crack" in the middle of my lower lip. What I got after the fast, other than the irritated lips, was another sore and scab at that place, and it appears that now, many days later, it has healed the crack. Could be a coincidence though, I suppose... is it common for some healing to occur after the fast has been broken, or for the healing to then enter the final stages? (During the fast, I noticed a few white, flat, scars had become less noticeable too, although that's said to happen over time, so perhaps I just didn't notice it until the fast.)
