This is my first fast ever, of any kind.

I started the fast out of nothing, i ate 2 cupcakes that were leftovers from my sisters birthday and then i went on the scale, i have gained 10 pounds since october....

After that i have not eaten anything and im 1 day 8 houers into the fast( im goong to sleep now) i have had a lemon and 3 cups of green tra( untill i found out you shouldent have thar in an water fast.)

So my questions are:
1: i have high colesterol, will water fasting help?
2: i have been shivering a lot, is that normal?
3: how long should i keep the fast? And how shoul i get into normal food agian? ( is orange juice folkowd by an apple ok?
4: is there any point other than weight loss with an 3 day water fast? Should i do 5 or 7 to get the ketosis?
5: will i loose a lot of muscle mass and can i work out while in the water fast?
6: is it smart to do somethig like one week on and one week of with water fast?
7: is it any "danger signs" i shold look out for that will tell me to end the fast immediatly?
8: do you got any tips in general?

Sorry for all the questions, and Thanks in advance for answers :)

Welcome to the Newbie. Everyone is a newbie at some point. You have come to the right place for fasting questions. I'll try to answer the ones I know the answers to!

So my questions are:
1: i have high colesterol, will water fasting help?

Water fasting will definitely help with high cholesterol, however, initially, the cholesterol may go up because of the fasting process. As your body starts to break down things, more cholesterol will be floating around until you are able to eliminate it. You may want to try the 5 step elimination cycle to help move it out.

2: i have been shivering a lot, is that normal?

Being cold is very normal while fasting. Your blood pressure goes down and your body moves blood from your extremities to your heart and brain. Just try to put on extra layers of clothing and keep warm. That is one of the bad things about fasting in the winter. The good thing, is that there isn't a lot of good garden fresh produce that you're not having to ignore in order to fast.

3: how long should i keep the fast? And how shoul i get into normal food agian? ( is orange juice folkowd by an apple ok?

For your first fast, it's good to do a shorter fast, such as 3-5 days until your body gets used to it. The first time you fast, you may feel a lot more detox symptoms than you will experience later on when you have fasted more. You should start slowly introducing easily digested foods to your system. I like to start with half an orange every 4 hours, then the next day, you increase the amount of food, and spread it out a bit. Be very careful not to overeat. I did that once after a fast and had all these pooping issues....having to go all the time, not being able to...I think if I had eaten better, I would have better experience. I recommend fruits because it has high water content and lots of fiber that will help make those first couple BMs much easier....sorry about the too much information. :o)

4: is there any point other than weight loss with an 3 day water fast? Should i do 5 or 7 to get the ketosis?

Ketosis isn't just about weight loss, when you hit ketosis, you will feel better because you're getting energy from stored fat and your body will spare your muscles. This is why fasting is better than an anorexic diet. By allowing your body to get to ketosis, you will burn more fat and have less muscle wasting. Once you get to ketosis, which normally can take 48 hours, why would you want to just go back to eating? Let your body burn off some extra fat (if you have it). Also, your body goes to work cleansing and autolyzing all kinds of nasty stuff that you don't need. It also works on things that you might have healed from but not properly. My first water fast, I experienced a sore throat around day 8 and then I remembered that I used to get tonsillitis frequently as a kid.

5: will i loose a lot of muscle mass and can i work out while in the water fast?

working out will encourage your body NOT to use up muscles as fuel, because it lets your body know you need your muscles. I tend to feel weak while fasting and while I can exercise, not up to my usual running pace, for example. There are a lot of people who fast and exercise. I'm going to try exercising while I'm on this fast.

6: is it smart to do somethig like one week on and one week of with water fast?

Once your body is accustomed to switching to ketosis, you can keep your body primed to burn fat by having a fast at least once every 7-10 days, so yes, that would be smart. However, once you get to one week, you may want to continue, rather doing like 3 weeks in a row and then go back to eating. Once you get into the second week, you get a burst of energy. Fasting doesn't get harder the longer you do it, it gets easier.
7: is it any "danger signs" i shold look out for that will tell me to end the fast immediatly?
8: do you got any tips in general?
There are lots of tips to be found on this website. Look at the old forum topics. check out the blogs. Look for articles. Read everything you can about fasting. Make yourself as informed as you can so that when someone questions what you are doing, you have information ready to ease their mind. I recommend that the first few fasts you do, you do privately. Once you have some experience and confidence, you can share what you are doing and perhaps get someone to join you in a fast.

Good luck!
