HI Dear Doctor.
Here I am looking at fasting again. new year is here and I could be better.

I know that I am dealing with adrenal burnout and some elevated cortisol levels (due to a lot of recent stress in my life) and I wonder if going into a water fast will be a good idea at this time.
I really feel my body needs something plus I want to drop weight.
The thing is that in January I tried to do fasting and i keep failing - 4 days is all i can do and then I am 'dying' of hunger. I can't seem to do intermittent fasting either - after the eating phase to go back into fasting is very difficult.

I need to do something for my body and it does feel somewhat weak and I don't have too much energy (I take synthroid and my third is in balance right now)

What are your thoughts?

Please dear Lavender, enlighten me as to exactly how this "adrenal burnout" was diagnosed. The only way I know of doing it is to collect 2 urine samples over 24 hours each, then measure the

(1) Total Cortisol (To check the output of the Cortex of the Adrenal gland) and

(2) Total VMA (Adrenalin breakdown product). (Measuring the output of the Medulla of the adrenal gland).

In adrenal burnout you will have REDUCED cortisol.

In any case, fasting is likely the most powerful single intervention you can do. But you will need to address your stress issues also. Start by following a vegan diet so you don't eat all the cortisol and adrenalin from the stressed animals.
Four days is NOT a fail. It's an excellent achievement. Just keep repeating it often. Even ONE day at a time, which is easy once you have done four!

What is a third? The thing that is in balance now?

André

Hi Dear doctor,
this burnout was diagnosed by a friend of mine who is a naturopathic doctor,
she said that with all the symptoms that I have:
- re-occuring respiratory infections (I had 2 since october - I normally never get sick)
- high stress lots of work and hardly any rest
- i get second 'wind' at night after 10pm and can continue to work on for hours
- lower back pain around where adrenals are located
- occasionally I can't sleep and wake up in the middle of the night
- she think i am unable to fast for longer than 4 days because of this adrenal problem
- low energy, i could sleep and sleep

So based on these she thinks that I have adrenal fatigue ...
She made a suggestion that due to high stress and my constant -go-go-go mode I may have increased cortisol levels. I have not done any tests.

Today Is my first day of water fast and I hope to do min 7 days...
Thank you for your answers

I don't know what you mean by the third? there was no third that I can see/think of.

The Doc was referring to this obscure phrase in your post:

I take synthroid and my third is in balance right now

It occurs to me this might be a typo, and perhaps you intended to write thyroid instead.

I guessed right then - on both counts. The other being the healing properties of fasting homeostasis vis a vis hormone balance, among other physiological systems.
