Looks good. However, in the 'categories' section there are no categories listed... yet. My hands are going ballistic already. Don't think I'll be able to produce some useful entry today. Useful - in terms of having fasted for 24 hours. lol

Anyway, not to be utterly useless today - I read some useful info in the book The Transformational power of fasting. There was a fact you would know but probably never realised and that is that every human life begins with ketosis as its primary method of producing energy. Because after birth babies are on high fat diet of mother's milk. Ketone bodies are the body's first fuel and some researchers even claim that they may be the preferred fuel.

And I thought I already knew everything about ketosis.

Yes this is so and thanks for reminding us of this fact. It is also a sobering fact to know that very few adults today experience ketosis. The categories should show when you post a new blog. There is a drop down displaying category options.

Hi Shant! I'm with yuh today! Today im going to aim for a water fast. I say "aim" because I normally do better when I ride it out and don't pressure myself. I'm hoping to go for as long as I can, I have some flexibility this week - so as long as my body wants, I won't stop. It would be a beautiful thing to make it to Thursday, I'd be besides myself with excitement!

When you do your water-only fasts, why do you try and not drink the lemon? Is it because the stomach registers it as something to digest? I'm wondering if that's the case with tea as well. Sometimes I get to the point where I've read so much info that everything runs together and becomes confusing.

Probably best bet is water only.

Since I've started on thyroid medication, (doc also dropped my dosage last week) my stomach as been really messed up. My digestive track has been "not working properly" so to say. I'm not having any eliminations and I feel dehydrated even though my water intake has been normal. I do find its worse when I'm out in the sun, or after a 4 mile run. I'm hoping this isn't a recipe for disaster as I start my fast.

I technically started my fast at 8pm last night. I had a salad and white rice - so not really "high fat". My goal would be Thursday night, making it a 4 day fast. Then seeing how it goes from there...

Shant - would today be day 2 for you?

I'd rather say.. I'm with you!

Well they say if you're fasting, then you should drink water only. According to this definition, I never fasted. I just tried to do a water fast only to see what it feels like. I'll never give up on my lemon again. Yumm yum  .
I'd say that if drinking tea helps you mentally go for it. If i understand it correctly, the liquid fasting pyramid according to the strength of detox looks like:
1. dry fast (ok, this one is liquid only the way out)
2. pure water fast
3. water fast wannabe (herbal tea, lemon juice in water :cheer: and other nearly zero calorie natural flavours - spices etc.)
4. green vegetable juice
5. vegetable juice
6. veg/fruit juice
7. fruit juice

Less carbs/cals in -> the stronger detox effect on your body system.

I even sweetened my tea with stevia. It's better than put it all on the hook, no? I'll always be somewhere between number 2 a 3 if I say I'm water fasting. But I deeply admire those who are able to stick to water.

Wait, you're constipated because of that medication? That's weird, considering you do have regular physical activity. It means you feel like you're losing more water than you intake (I'd eat a lot of celery.. for sodium) and at the same time constipated. I read that even if you feel like you don't have to go, you can train it simply by sitting straight on the toilet, having arms above your head, legs elevated.. and keep waiting, it might produce something :). Have you ever tried taking psyllium husks?

Nono, you're ahead. I was eating raw today. Unplanned and I liked it. Received a package full of raw kale chips in the morning and I had to try the new flavour. Then I was having plenty of fruit which I normally don't eat, some veggies, coco/nuts, coconut water.. I forgot how amazing life is without a blender/mixer. My poor thing passed away last Monday when I was vigorously making a nut butter.

I had my last meal 1.5 hrs ago - 6 pm. Coconut, strawberries, nuts, banana.

Cheer up for tomorrow!

David: My urge to write a blog entry comes in waves. This thread already looks like blog anyway. :)

Erin: I got something to motivate you. I read an article about influence of moon phases and fasting. Considering today is a full moon, it's, next to the new moon, the greatest time to clean your powerhouse. During waning phase that follows the appetite decreases and detoxification increases. Thus, it's the best time to drink plenty of water to stimulate removal of toxins and be fasting :). And we are.

Day is going great. I've just realised l'll be done with those jinxed first 24 hours soonish. Ok, having said that, I've just started to feel my empty stomach, damn it!

That sounds awesome! I've always believed there were certain times of the month when fasting was easier. I assumed it had to do with monthly cycles (pms and such). But the moon cycles totally make sense, I never even considered that point. Very interesting stuff. I've been doing good - going strong. I've been doing a LOT of reading and keeping myself busy. Sometimes you need to completely take the mind off what you're doing (fasting or diets).

I'm really starting to realize how important consistency is when it comes to fasting. Incorporating it weekly, and even for longer stints (rather than one day) is going to replace bad habits. So my goal is really for more consistency.

Erin127 that is what the Fast Doctor believes and practices that IF is better than a one off fast as it incorporates fasting into your lifestyle. However it still requires will power to keep it up like any discipline.

I'd say that IF requires much more willpower than one off fast. I feel after one fast really well (if I managed to stick to the plan) and once I start eating the idea of another fast seems very hard... Well, I 'm also trying to do it now, we'll see!
Erin I agree that there are certain times when fasting is easier I noticed that Lent time is good but even better Ramadan time when I feel a lot of spirituality around and although I'm not a Muslim it effects me a helps me to stick to the fast!

3 days done and switching to juice semi-fast, length undecided. Yesterday was a bit rough - had headache and lower back pain. Other than that, it's been going well. In the morning, I saw that the tip of my tongue has cleared.. bizarre observation, hey?
I was immersed in research on monosodium glutamate and inflammation in the body. An idea of my future lifestyle has been born. I see no chance I'd stick to raw food or vegan/vegetarian diet in the long term and therefore I'm looking for other options how to improve my diet, benefit from it, enjoy it and be sprinting like a squirrel.

Erin- I agree with consistency. Consistency creates new habits :). Hope you're doing well. As for the moon phase fasting. Google: moon (your city). It'll redirect you on timeanddate.com and you'll see exactly the time when the certain moon phase begins. In case you'd like to know precisely...

I want to quickly update.. that I've made it. I finally found new motivation and broke the cycle of fasting and overeating. I'm in love with nourishing food again, abstain from all diary and gluten, and feel great. I fast each day for no longer than 16 hours. If I feel like it I'll do a 24 hr fast now and then. I have also started taking flaxseed oil for omega3 and am in love with coconuts (surprisingly). I've come to realisation that longer fasting maybe a great way to heal the body and mind but isn't a way to lose weight in the long run. Anyhow, I'm glad for this experience. I would never say I could be capable of living a 100% active life without food. Thank you fasting connection.
