Greetings to all my fellow fasters,
I am starting my 5 day fast with 48 hours dry fasting. I will then transition to water fast for the final 3 days. Is the blog working? I didn't see the button to create a new blog so I hope it is okay for me to post here. I look forward to any feedback and support. I have been doing a bit of intermittent fasting the past couple of weeks and I have weaned off of caffeine about 3 weeks ago because it really gets in the way of fasting. I actually motivated myself by rereading my blog posts previously. I'd love to have anyone join me and share their experiences as well.

:P So far, the fast is going well, I've only just begun and my motivation is pretty high. I went for a 4.5 mile run this morning at 6am but came home and went back to bed for 3 hours. The test is going to be when I get to work. Clients like to bring gifts of cookies and there is usually food all around me. Dry fasting helps in this regard because usually I'm just craving water instead of food. My dry fast is a modified dry fast because I showered and brushed my teeth. Also, working as a hairdresser, I have a lot of contact with water. I drank a lot of water before bed to make sure I was fully hydrated. I like dry fasting because it helps you get through those first couple of days. The bad thing is that I ate some cookies yesterday which were made with sugar and refined flour. In my experience, I have a bit of a withdrawal from those, sometimes with a headache. Hopefully I won't have that problem because it wasn't a lot and I have been eating very little of that type of food lately. Usually I eat a whole foods plant based diet 90% of the time.

:S I have a little headache, but other than that I feel pretty good. Made it through the day without much trouble staying motivated. So far I have done 23 hours of dry fasting. I hope to get through tomorrow without any food or drink.

:P I made it through 36 hours of dry fasting. Now I am switching to water fasting. I did take 1 acetaminophen for my headache. It helped. So far I feel pretty good. I'm only going to drink water as needed. I will be working today from 1-9pm. At the 36 hour mark, I still did not have ketones. That surprises me. Usually I get a trace of ketones at 24 hours of dry fasting. Maybe because of the cookies I ate I had a larger amount of stored carbs.

 I had a dilemma. I had told a friend who wanted to run with my group that I would run Monday, Wed and Friday so she would know someone in the group to run with us. I should have just sent her a text that I couldn't make it Friday. I got home from work Thursday and just decided to eat a small meal so I would have some stored carbohydrate to run. When I was getting into bed, I saw that my friend had cancelled on me! I was very disappointed in myself. My wanting to please other people often leaves me less than pleased with myself. So I got back on the fasting wagon. But there was one more little problem. Date night. My husband and I have started a tradition of date nights on Fridays. Again, I didn't mention to him that I was fasting (he's not supportive) and we went out to eat. I was very wise about my choices and my meal was under 400 calories. So I am going to start again tomorrow. And I do recognize that I made a choice both times to eat and I know that I was tempted to eat, not just for the reasons I wrote down, but because fasting is hard and the hardest part, I think, is sometimes the second and third day. But I am jumping right back into it and I am going to extend my fast until Tuesday evening. That way I will get 4 full days in. Please understand it takes a lot of courage to share when fasting doesn't turn out the way I planned. :) Thanks for listening (reading)

I've completed 24 hours of a dry fast. I am re-evaluating my goals right now, though. I'm going to fast through the day tomorrow and then end it at around 48 hours. First of all, I have my first Christmas Party tomorrow (actually, it's my only one, I think) and I would like to enjoy it. I just don't think I have the will power to attend a party and not to eat any food. Also, I'll be running early the following morning so it will be nice to have some carbohydrate stores.
