So I have several stomach illnesses which include Diverticulitis and Chrohns's Diease and IBS. I'm on Day #12 of my fast and I am having stomach pain in the area where I normally would have flare~ups at. I'm a little nervous that a flare~up is coming on but I'm trying to be hopeful that maybe it's just part of the detox process. Now normally when I have a flare~up I can't eat anything anyway. So I'm going to try to keep going. I guess my concern is if the pain worsen I'm not sure if I should seek medical attention or just stick it out?

THis is one of the few instances, dear lakmondor, where I might recommend an intestinal flush. You wish to totally empty the gut of any solid residue, including shed cells. The best way in my experience is to drink anything from 1 to 4 litres of an isotonic Macrogol solution, the same that is used to prepare your intestine for investigation or surgery. We use a product called Klean-Prep but any other like Movicol would be exactly the same. The only prerequisite is that it should not contain anything that might be absorbed.. it has to stay in the gut to flush it from top to bottom. A few more days of fasting thereafter would be beneficial also.

lakmondor, I would certainly pay a visit to your doctor if you are in pain. 12 days is already quite an achievement and anything above three days we highly recommend supervision by a health care professional especially if you have several preexisting health conditions. The difficulty is to find a doctor who is sympathetic to fasting. Do let us know how you get on.

Thanks Andre & David, I survived day #12 and today is Day #13 the pain/discomfort has subsided and I will play it by ear. If it worsens or does not go away I will seek medical attention. I will also update post on this topic if anything changes.

This is just an update: I'm still having some discomfort but I'm trying to swing it. I really want to accomplish what I set out to do and that's a 21 day fast. I've just finished day #13 and I can see the light @ the end of the tunnel. I will be so disappointed if I can't complete it but I'm going for it. Not only do I feel healthier I look great too. So far I've lost 19lbs and my goal was 30. I feel like I've come to far to quit. So just pray for me and I will leave it in the hands of God. Thank you all for your support!

Please, dear lakmondor, don't chase records. Deciding on a number of days beforehand holds the risk that you might consciously or subconsciously ignore warning signs from your body. Anything longer than a week needs close supervision and at least screening investigations/tests in my opinion. Remember: If you do no harm this time, you can always fast again. Plus, the habit of regular short fasts is better than the occasional longer one and practically just as effective. You can still lose your "pounds" in a number of steps instead of one.. and it's easier to keep off that way.

Thanks Andre and I will keep this in mind. I'm use to have flare~ups and this one is not as nearly as bad as they have been. I feel like I'm doing the right thing. When I do have flare~ups I can't eat due to the severe pain and when I seek medical attention they tell me not to eat until they can do further testing. I don't quite feel like I'm at the point where I need to see a dr. I am managing the discomfort. When I'm resting I'm not in any discomfort. I thank you for your support & I do take everything inconsideraton. Thanks again!
