Doing my own little fast at the moment, on my third day!

Just wondering what sort of signals my body will send me when a complication arises that requires me to stop the fast.

I had couple books on my computer that went over this but i had to delete my hardrive and so far google has failed me.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Dear Rajy, you can watch simple measures such as your resting pulse rate, the smell of the urine, your energy level, exercise tolerance and many more.. but generally I believe you are ready to break your fast when your body tells you to. Some of the criteria includes craving a food:

1. One single, specific, unprocessed, natural raw food (Usually a fruit)
2. Your craving is NOT triggered by seeing or smelling or talking about this food
3. The craving is persistent for more than a day
4. The craving does not change to a different food, even if you see or smell something else.

This indicates that your body has completed its "internal audit" post "spring cleaning" and now knows what you need and where to find it.

Of course few people are as experienced in "biofeedback" as to sense these triggers reliably. Thus the advice is not individual.. and it remains safer to do a series of short fasts rather than stubbornly persisting with one long fast, unless you have experienced supervision.

Hope this helps.

André

During my 40-day fast I have not experienced craving of one single, specific, unprocessed, natural raw food more than a day. I have craved mangoes a couple of times on different days but usually the craving would go away within minutes. Does that mean that my body did not complete its "internal audit".

I would guess you didn't reach that point.

I remember that the fast doctor said it only happens when you "run out of the first essential nutrient that cannot be produced in the body" hence your body fat would have to be very low i.e. your body fat would need to be in either single figures for men or low teens for women this is of course unless your diet is poor so your fat has less nutrients in it compared to a healthier diet.

You said you started with 40% fat not sure how accurate it was but with around that amount you can last a long time as you were classified as obese(32%plus). I remember mine was in the athletic range but probable was more likely in the fitness range as I think the estimate was too low and I never reached that point either during my fast.

On a side note did you ever get your body fat measured professionally like you said you were going to so you can compare your real body fat to what your electric one estimated it at. I know you had some medical problems so you might not have done it yet.

I seriously doubt that fat measuring device since after losing 44 lbs it was not showing much difference in fat. I do plan to do the body composition test but last Saturday was out of question due to my edema. I might wait until after my next dry fast and do it then, that way it will be more accurate since I want have all that water weight in me.

I think it is better to plan your fast based on the processes your body goes through as it is done with various length of dry fasting. But that's my personal opinion.

Dear Milena, the fact that your craving did not persist more than a day or 2 is more likely indicative of a situation where your body's internal "reference library" is not available yet. This takes a long time to "program" and to do so you need to let your body know what is in which natural food. Thus if you keep up the habit of breaking fasts with single foods, then in time the biofeedback is going to be come progressively more reliable.
