Can't get enough water down

So I'm on my 4th day of water fast.. No big problems, a bit of migrane symptoms today, but nothing too major.

But I'm having a hard time getting enough water down. I've had the same issue while juice fasting.. It's just like my body is rejecting it. I have to force myself.

Anybody know how this can be?

There is really no such thing as enough water during the water fast. Your body will tell you how much to drink. I personally would drink an average of a 1 liter during my 30 days on water, however, towards the end when I could not stand water any more I would drink less and even skipped one day all together.

May the Energy you free from digesting serves your Body and Spirit well!

Hello CphBel!
Count your blessings that you do not have any obvious problem.
But for your concern about water consumption, In my own experience I do better skipping water for the whole time when I do my weekly IF, and then just a glass of water while I do my five step detox cycle, because I love to use the sauna to sweat.

You know what? It never crossed my mind ‘you need 8-10 glass of water a day’ madness but only on Oprah Winfrey show. Once she mentioned that it was like wild fire, and before we knew it battled water flooded the store.

Heaven help us most of us are brainwashed into believing that if we skipped a drink we would be dehydrated. Well, maybe not.

I highly recommend you to read Milena’s blog if you did not do so about her nine plus days of dry fasting! Very inspirational! No water what so ever for the whole 9 plus days, Zero, Zilch.

As for me I do not downplay practical experience. I believe anecdotal evidence has its place in these types of situation where there are few sufficient scientific evidence is around.

Mrs. L

That was really great to read your experience, Milena.

I am curious.. how many of the 45 lbs did you manage to keep off? And how was it going back to solids?

Dear CphBel,

Thank you very much for your comments.

I gained 14 lbs within first 2 weeks (water weight) then stabilized at that. For more information on my one month update you can read my latest post at www.fastingconnection.com/about-my-water...ay-combined-fasthtml

In my long fast (4 days dry 28 days on water 8 days on juice) in which I lost 39 pounds 18 days later and I have gained back 9 pounds, so overall we lost almost the same now you lost a pound more but you did dry fast longer than me.

CphBel if you don't feel thirsty doesn't matter if you don't drink when the body breaks down fat it gains some water from your reserves, an easy check to tell if you're getting enough is by looking at how dark your urine lighter it is the less dehydrated you are. Ideally it will remain similar to what it is normally, too light would mean your drinking too much and putting too much stress on your kidneys as your drinking too much.

Well if its clear like water it means your drinking too much, but lighter means your less dehydrated. The best color is a light yellow meaning your drinking roughly the right amount.

Besides the difference in the lenght of dry fast, where you did 4 days and I did 9.5 and the difference in water fast where you fasted for 28 days and I wasted for 30.5 ( I do not include juice since I don't consider it fasting in its true sense), you also worked out and I did not. So I think the fact that we lost about the same is attributed to the fact that you were burning more calories then me.

It is colorless urine that indicates over-hydration, which is usually considered much healthier than dehydration. However, to some extent over-hydration can remove essential salts from the body and potentially cause hyponatremiam (water intoxication.

My urine in general has very little color, except for the 1st urine in the morning when it is light yellow. It was the same during all 9 days of dry fast and it was the same during my water fast when I was drinking an average of 1 liters per day.

Dear CphBel, you have been given some really wize advice here. The volume of water recommended for the American public is largely calculated on the total over-indulgence in acids (Amino acids, proteins) and Sodium Chloride (salt). A vegan never needs to drink if they live in a cold climate.

The best source of information remains your body itself: Listen to your thirst! Whilst you should not force yourself to stay "dry" you should also not force yourself to drink..
