My husband has an begun alternate day fasting regime, eating nothing on fast days mostly protein (and some fat but NO carbs) on eating days. I was just wondering, is this safe? Thanks to this site I have learned that eating all protein after a long fast is ill advised and dangerous. What about if you are fasting every other day?

Welcome Murmurka, sorry to answer a question with one, but what do you mean by protein (Plant based, animal based, dairy etc?) and what are your goals?

Accept yourself as you are. Otherwise you will never see opportunity. You will not feel free to move toward it; you will feel you are not deserving.

The main goal is weightloss, as quickly as possible. He's unable to water fast for more than three days at a time so we decided to do IF and maintain ketosis by feeding him high protein meals (mostly chicken, meat, eggs, peanuts) during the eating days. Just wondering if this is safe.

why can't he fast longer than 3 days? is it a work/energy restricted thing, or a mental thing? It seems that most people who have fasted for long bouts of time say you lose all cravings after 3 days and it becomes easier.

I, myself, haven't done a long fast, but I know that once I stop eating and lose cravings, I don't want to eat. I'd rather do a long fast and reap the benefits. I eat, mainly out of boredom and addiction to food, but I know I have the ability to go long.

Hope someone can add input!

I understand what you are trying to do. I do appreciate a low carb diet, but not a NO carb diet. I strive for this myself allowing up to 100 carbs (spending them mostly on vegetables and some fruit when I have a desire for something sweet and I'm usually at 60-75 by the end of the day) and anywhere between 60-120 grams of protein. I would go by what is recommended and not excess protein for his body type. I do not believe in the Atkins style diet where people eat unlimited fat and protein...I do not believe it is healthy. Its all calories in vs calories out (yes, I do believe in the metabolic advantage of a low carb diet to some extent....calories still count) and there are significantly less calories on fasting days. I believe the doctor recommends 36 hour fasts and I love doing this. I am not a pro or a doctor...just sharing what I believe is healthy and works for me. Best wishes to him.
