I have heard 2 things:
1. Fasting disrupts the metabolism for life, slowing it down and thus when you begin eating solid foods again, you put any weight on really quickly....all of it...and then MORE because your metabolism has permanently slowed.
2. Your metabolism only slows during the fast, but once you begin eating (healthy foods again) it picks back up, and runs even hotter than before because your body is functioning more optimally.
Dr, can you clarify? I'm a juice faster, drinking mostly vegetable juices, with coffee enemas for detox purposes. Thank you.

Dear Truth, what you heard

(1) has no truth in it.

You need your metaboism to
1. Maintain body temperature
2. Maintain blood flow through heart contraction
3. Fire the neurons in the brain (at last 20% of your metabolism)
4. Digest food
5. Move

and a few more. Now HOW on planet earth can you do all these things with a "slow metabolism" when there is just NO way of saving energy on any of these processes? Absolute nonsense.

(2) unfortunately also not... your metabolism rate is determined by the few things I mentioned above and a few more including ad hoc requirements. Metabolism rate is sped up a bit during and after exercise but then returns to baseline.

Anyway, I WANT a slow metabolism because then the aging process is also slowed down.

"Juice fast" is of course a contradiction in terms as I have explained numerous times on these forums. Coffee enemas is very, very dangerous and ill advised; actually all enemas are, and should be reserved for impaction; then only very low in the rectum and never higher up. I have also explained this in length and breadth on these same forums. Coffee up the rear end of your digestive system definitely TOXIFY instead of DEtoxify you.

Welcome here dear Truth, I do hope you'll find the forum intellectually stimulating. Looking forward to some more exchanges.

Twenty years ago a horse kicked me in the face, shattering my jaw. It was in too many pieces for surgical repair so they wired my jaw shut for three months. I lived on liquids. Initially I used yogurt stirred into orange juice, sipping it constantly all day. On Thanksgiving Day my wife managed to liquefy several pieces of turkey by using a blender. The liquid goop looked like gravy but tasted like turkey. I experimented with milkshakes and found I'm lactose intolerant. Drinking constantly I had to pee constantly as well. Liquid meals meant I was living on a few hundred calories a day.

The OP mentioned enemas for detoxification. Peeing constantly would probably do a better job of detoxing. Whatever toxins are in your colon are on their way out of the body already. Toxins in your blood stream are filtered out by the kidneys. The more liquids you drink, the more toxins you remove.

Three months on a liquid diet I went from 220 pounds to 160 pounds.
