010 club recruiting now

Fantastic analysis, David. You completely dissected the study and found the gaps. You are right in that more research needs to be done... There are differences in gender as well - eg would 010 affect female fertility?

David,

What is your 'typical' diet during one week of an 010 fast? I'm really intrigued by this, and I think I might like to give this a shot. On the surface it seems as though it would be somewhat easier than the 5:2, but this is of course just speculation on my part at this point.

Also (and this may not be that important a point), since there are seven days in a week, you have a 'different' week from week one to week two as far as actual 'days' of the week are concerned. (In my home, for example, we have a 'family night' which invariably occurs on Friday night. So if I did not plan for this every other week, I would be fasting while everyone else is not on that alternate Friday night.)

Thanks in advance. :)

David (and others who are doing the 010),

I've read a few of the links that are provided in the 010 blog. It's quite fascinating.

When practicing the 010, do you eat at roughly the same times on the non-fasting day? Or does the hour at which you eat vary? Also, do you really eat pretty much what you want on the non-fasting day, or are calories intentionally reduced like they are on some members' (e.g., Breadandwine) 5:2 fasting regimen?

On my eating day yes usually same time but I also eat if and when I am hungry and even when not as I tell myself that food is precious as tomorrow there is no food. I pay no attention to calories on my eating day as for the most part I am not hungry anyway but eat as a matter of principle otherwise I fear it could get messy. As in blurring 010 borders. I do depart from the more staunch 010 members though in that I drink tea and honey on my non eating day which amounted to about 200 calories still less than those mentioned on the Horizon Documentary. I have had a week brake from the practice and plan to restart again but this time omitting the tea and honey on the zero day.

Thanks for the interesting question and I do hope you will join us as soon as you feel ready. :)

Ockeghem,
In regards to eating habits on 010, I eat pretty much what I want on eating days. I thought i would at least stay the same ( I don't weigh myself, so just by fit of clothing), but I am definitely getting smaller. I work out pretty intensely twice a week, so that has changed my body but really I just eat what I feel like and don't eat anything the next day. I tend to not at eat breakfast on my eating days, so usually start eating around 11am and stop eating about 9pm. I drink black coffee everyday though and I have a double eating day once a week, since I always fast on Sundays and Tuesdays, then I choose either Thursday or Friday to be my next fast day. I love it. I have gained so much freedom from intermittent fasting.

LadyEm,

Thanks. The 010 sounds like a good plan for sure. I'm enjoying it thus far, and I must say that the freedom is one of the positive aspects of this regimen. I'll be interested to see how I feel after a few weeks of trying out this (for me) new way of fasting.

I am also contemplating a modified version of the 010 (in fact, I'm not sure what to call it yet as it's still in the works). I want to stick as closely as possible to what others are doing at this point. If I am eventually able to implement this modified version into my own schedule as a way of life, I will be certain to report my experiences on the blog. :)

hi all... i have been also contempating on doing the 010 fast... I think this is something that one can do a long term...

my dilemna is, i usually feel hungry at night around 10pm-12midnight. wont that make my body store the food as fat when i sleep.. although ofcourse i will just eat salad...

Do you eat whatever on eating days? how many times a day do you eat? do you have he same benefits mentally and spiritually as fasting for 3-5 days in a row?

"Hunger" can be either
* Psychological (Having been brainwashed like Pavlov's dogs) or
* Enzymatic: Not having the appropriate enzymes to convert your fat back to energy.
Your timing appears to fit the latter. The longer you fast, however, the more active these enzymes become until you can break down fat faster than what your body needs the energy. Then, a third mechanism of hunger kicks in:
* Toxins released from the fat can make you feel rather unwell. Your instinct knows that eating will produce new fat, the toxins will go into the new fat and thus there will be less in the blood. You would temporarily feel so much better, that you reinforce the faulty "program" in your brain that it's food that makes you feel better.

Practice makes perfect.

And making sure that you get rid of the toxins as they are released into your circulation, makes it not only easier, but also a log safer and healthier.. that's why it is so important to try and to a few elimination cycles each day...

Good Morning! I'm rather new to this forum but not new to fasting....been using ESE on and off for almost 2 yrs. I'd love to join this group. I need to finish reading through this thread but wanted to say hi.
Wednesday was 0 (only water & seltzer water)
Thursday was fed (1450 cals)
Today back to 0.
I find that if I can stick to water and seltzer water only my fast is so much easier. Its when I start chewing gum or have a diet pop or something that it gets harder. Of course some days those items actually do help me get through the 36hrs but most of the time its just easier to go without them.

Very welcome McGinn, hope you'll feel @ home here!

You are quite right in your observations: Note in many posts here how I stress the point that any TASTE entering your body means you are not fasting: It gives a message to the brain that you are eating and the brain is, after all, in charge. Pure carbonated water is fine and often helps you through. But what helps most is an intense 5-step detox cycle, by removing the toxins that actually stimulate the cravings. Do try it.

Hi Everyone. This is my first post. I just joined fastingconnection. I see the last response to this thread was a month ago. I hope that doesn't mean the group isn't active cuz I'd love to join. I've been a dedicated alternate day faster for 11 months now. About 8 months ago I did a 10 day water fast, and it's my intention to undertake another moderate-length fast next week (twice a year). About two years prior to embracing alternate day fasting I had been practicing calorie restriction (with optimal nutrition). This put me in good stead to weather alternate day fasting and my 10 day water fast. I didn't struggle with hunger or ill feelings for one minute, though I was rather weak from about day four on (to be expected). Anyway, I would love to be a part of a like-minded community and learn from, and hopefuuly contribute to, our collective knowledge and passion for all things health-promoting.

Annie,

Hello. Congratulations on your routine! As one whom has done an alternate day fasting regimen for eleven months, may I ask what effect this has had on your weight? I am very curious about beginning some type of an 010 fast once I am done with my current fast. Thanks.

Hi Ockeghem. Before I answer your question I should give you some background. I'm 52, 5' 7" and currently 118 lbs. Most all of my adult life I've weighed a steady 132 lbs. At age 46 I entered menopause and my weight climbed up to 153. That distressed me to no end. At some point I embraced calorie restriction and that helped me shed about 15 lbs., but it took about 1-1/2 years to whittle off that relatively meager weight loss. Menopause had really slowed my metabolism. But thankfully my head was in the right place and I remained focused on improving my health, and tried not to fret too much about the scale (though I admit to being as vain as the next girl). My weight remained in the mid 130's until my 10 day water fast last April. Since then I remain between 115 and 118. I love this protocol and have never felt better and more in control of my health.
