Annie I think you would be an invaluable 010 member so I hope you join the small group. I am sure we would all love to hear more about your alternate day fasting experience and perhaps you can help us to fine tune it as you have more experience than all of us combined. According to The Fast Doctor slow metabolism = longer life so that is one plus I trust. :)

Hello Virdi

More than likely the 3 x 5 days approach. But for long term health benefits alternate day fasting. :)

Sounds good. You may also like to read through this article on theories of obesity and a riveting documentary on why diets don't work and much more on food and health.

Thank you for the welcome Ockeghem, Lisa & David. Sorry I went silent for a few days. We're in the middle of a move. Oy, so much work. I'm grateful to have found this board and am looking forward to being an active member. I'm learning new insights and points of view than I've been exposed to heretofore. I think I gave an idealized synopopsis of my health journey, and though I appreciate the expresssions of affirmation, I want to be totally real and honest. Though everything I said about my two years of practicing calorie restriction and subsequent every-other-day-fasting (to present time) and 10 day complete water fast is true, it's also true that my journey is flawed. What I do wrong is that I'm a total caffeine addict. I read the entries of some other folks on this message board and I understand that some don't find that to be a problem, but I'm convinced it's health-damaging and I would really like to Kick it. That was a big motivator when I went on my 10 day fast. I didn't touch any caffeine during my fast (nothing but pure water), and I refrained during my several days re-feeding protocol, but at some point after that time, boom, I was back at it, and with a vengeance. I don't know why I find this particular substance so seductive, but I've never been able to successfully overcome it - and I've tried. Anyway, day after tomorrow (Jan 1) I plan to enter my second 10 day fast. Wish I could do more, but we have social obligations in the middle of the month and I have no choice but to finish my fast and my re-feeding and be ready to meet old and dear friends at a restaurant for some feasing (maybe I'll push my food around my plate a bit and hope no one notices). I plan to follow the active fasting protocol Dr. Andre talks about so often and see if that gets me thru the re-feed and accelerates my regainging of strength before we start our travels. I should mention that when I did my first 10 day water fast last April I was very weak. I remained pretty weak for quite some time. I assumed this was normal, but maybe others bounce back faster - maybe because of Dr. Andre's protocol. In any event, I'm gonna give it a go. Thanks for being there to listen and share your own experiences.

I wish you an easy move Annie. Re your coffee experience here is our big coffee debate thread which you may wish to add to. Like you I am not really pro coffee as I perceive it as an addictive drug but many find it harmless and I think it is important to hear views from both camps.

Thanks for sharing your experience and I do look forward to your participation on the site when time allows.

Happy New Year to you and yours.
