Hi folks

I began IF 21 months ago by dividing my calories in two on two days a week after reading articles in The Independent and Time magazine. I thought, in my innocence, that a quarter of your daily calories was a tad extreme!

Here's how I got to where I am:

nobreadisanisland.blogspot.co.uk/2012/02...ess-live-longer.html

By a gradual process I've now arrived at a point where I've just completed a 46-hour liquid fast - and thoroughly enjoyed it!

I've said for a long time I won't let another week go by without one fast or another - I've never felt so good.

Who knows where I'll be in another 21 months time? :)

I'd just like to pay tribute to this site, it certainly played a part in my development.

Hello Breadandwine. Thrilled that you have benefited so much from adopting an IF lifestyle. I am also chuffed that you have given us a reciprocal link on your blog and a well chosen one too: Theories of Obesity: www.fastingconnection.com/forum/Fasting-...ng-always-the-answer I had a lot of fun compiling that list. I have a new one now to add. High EMR (electromagnetic radiation) exposure for prolonged periods. Messes up the body's endocrine system and water retention / fat increase possible side effects. Could it be that the body attempts to build up a defence mechanism by adding pounds of fat or water retention? Only need to find some scientific literature to back this up some.

Thank you for being such a good inspiration and your positive comments about this site. :)

I posted about my fasting on another forum and received this response:

"Breadandwine
The trouble with long fasts for those over a certain age is that you DO NOT want your body stripping nutrients out of bone and muscle, particularly bone.
It would be a real shame if you took the enjoyment of fasting ... over into another ED."

Are there any contra-indications? I'm in my mid-70s and feel like a fit forty-year-old!

Breadandwine you might want to run this by the Doc. But I tend to believe that for some people long fasts can strip minerals but believe that intermittent fasting is a much safer way to go about fasting. Here is the link to the site's contraindication page:

I am sure you know most of this.
