Hello,
I am in doubt weather to fast or not. I have done my fast in this feb for 20days and lost 15kgs but i broke my fast wrongly so gained bak 5kgs. Then i managed my diet and did two 4-5day fasts and maintained the rest of weight loss.
My next fast was in April for 14days and lost 9kgs, and this time out of compulsion from dear ones ate wrongly and gained 4kgs in 5days. I was not comfortable with that and started fasting again and first 7-8days were fine and lost 6kgs but then i started gaining 1kg per day. I was shocked and i didnot understand whats happening and i brokemy fast.
I was so scared and thought my body is deprived of nutrition i have to eat more and started eating.. and we had a tour plan also nd i feasted in hotels. I ended up gaining 4.5kgs in 15days and now i understand that my decision was bad. :(
Its been 15days since my last fast and now I am 68kg at 5.7 height. I want to fast again for 14days nd if i can continue to 20days. This will be my last fast for this year.
You might be thinking this girl is silly, good for nothing. I know i have done terrible mistake in breaking the fasts all these times.
But now i planned to break my fast healthily nd not yeild to any compulsions and any temptations.I plan to break my fast with 7day juicing, 7day raw veg, fruit and 20day vegan and then a healthy life style.
Please help me. I am not understanding if I am damaging my body with these continuous fasts nd i still dont understand how could i ever increase 2kg for 2days on fasting days. I am afraid wondering if that repeats again.
P.S I dont have any problems in digestion or any odds after breaking d fast expect weight gain and swelling initially.
Please advice me. I want to stay healthy and fit. I know fasting is not a solution but i feel its a key. Once i lose weight i will try to maintain it with healthy life style. And the best thing ive done in my life to myself is fasting. It cleared up my face, improved and cleansed my body. I became a totally different person. Between i started working out.
Sorry for bigggg post, but wanted to ask detailedly.
Thank you :)

I don't know if the amount of fasting you have been up to this year is good or not, I like fasting but I hear negative things about it and I am in no way an expert! I just fast when I feel like its right for me. Maybe someone else can help you with that question.

Your plan this time around sounds great! I know it's hard when you fast for weightloss and the scale doesn't agree with you. It might be a good idea to only weigh yourself every week or every 3-4 days so you don't get upset.

There is a thread here where a few of us are fasting for 15-??? Days and I am finding it very supportive.

I think a healthier lifestyle is something we are all looking for. Good luck.

I started this as a 30 day but a few have decided to join as they are doing 14/15 days and then going to try and push to 30.

I don't worry about it. My metabo is quite fast and if it isn't getting active would increase it.
I fast, do strict calorie restriction and run/cycle/swim keep active and really thin and fit.
Done 20+ days and found no ill effects apart from massive weight-loss, but find 8-15 days ideal and one long fast a year.

Interesting exchange of ideas. Do bear in mind that the body's weight can easily change a kilogram in a day. Just having a liter of liquid gives you a kilogram, and dehydrating barely one per cent leaves you a kilogram short.

Metabolism firstly keep your body warm, your heart beating and the blood circulating, the brain functioning, the kidneys filtering and the liver producing what you need to survive. Its rate really cannot change much. Thus it is more important how much you eat than what you eat. I do know many advisers out there try to tell you differently but then there's also the Flat Earth Society...

Fast regularly, fast often, Never eat more than 6 consecutive days, allowing your digestive tract to celebrate the Sabbath. And you'll be fine.

But i have a doubt.. i didnot drink much water on those fasting days when i increased. I go by saying drink according to thirst and surprisingly i dont feel much thirsty while fasting. And still by considering weight by water also.. may be i should not increase 1kg per day.

It's important to keep fluid levels up. I'm used to being starving all my life and can get through hunger, but not dehydration.
About to leave on a 40 mile runs, under fasted condition. As long I keep drinking, I can do it, the body hopefully should use some of my remaining 100lb bodyweight in the meantime to keep going.

Very, very valuable input Marsh. We are safe relying exclusively on biofeedback for hunger most of the time but as for thirst/hydration, I agree we should rather play it safe. You can do damage by drinking too much water but that would be over 20 liters a day. You can do more damage by dehydrating.

Appreciate your post. :) Sometimes my body has "held" or gained weight, even while fasting or on a VLCD. I tend not to pay attention to the daily reduction (when considering it at all, I'm very near my ideal natural weight already) as generally a few days later I experience a drop on the scale that makes sense.

As the Dr. indicated, playing it safe when taking in water/liquid may mean being certain to hydrate regularly (often, unless one is entirely detoxed, I have observed that what my personality interprets as hunger may actually be thirst... it can be hard to know that one is thirsty).

LOVE your dedication to transitioning off of the fast in a healthful way and supporting your body, mind, heart and Soul with a healthful lifestyle~*

Loved what you wrote, Cici, about fasting when it feels right. Life-changing for me to really get still and tune in/listen to my body and make choices based upon that. Sometimes it is hard for me to be flexible, yet it always works out happier for me to be responsive to life/my body. :D

Hey @manu, you are welcome. :) I don't think of it as failure, but as an experiment in cleansing and healing. You do the best you can~*

I understand about intermittent--you have to do what works for you. I don't do lots of strict water fasts. Instead I go on "no food" fasts (like @Ockeghem, who gave me that word), so I allow:

Flavored waters (like peppermint essential oil flavored) or hot tea/lemonade (w/stevia and ginger in it) or chlorophyll water (the kind without glycerine)... anything without food particles, so clear liquids (except chlorophyll which is dark green).

This thread talks about that: www.fastingconnection.com/forum/Ketosis/13353-lemon-juice

I have been cleansing pretty regularly for almost 20 years, so it's been a really gradual transition to eating very, very clean and fasting, or eating very lightly, for days at a time.

As I've eaten a cleaner and cleaner diet, that works for my specific body, I've gotten more sensitive. I used to eat a SAD (standard American diet), 20 years ago... Now I eat a super green diet and I have much bigger reactions if I eat off of the diet that I know creates wellness for me.

I really feel that this ongoing cleansing, health and vitality, is about progress, not perfection. I don't think I could/would do an unsupervised strict water fast for (21 -30) days, as I am working with cleansing an underlying condition. Maybe I can later this year, once I complete this "no food" fast.

Ideally, next year I will get to cleanse under supervision, water only, for several weeks. I think there is a lot to be said for being under supervision.

Note: Sometimes I have experienced weird detox symptoms whether liquid fasting or green drink cleansing, tasting/smelling chemicals in mouth (or body waste), cold to the point of shivering, heat, a near burning sensation in releasing body waste (heavy metal detox, release), blisters, rashes, aches, fatigue, weakness.

So definitely rest as much as possible. I am not even driving at this time, and I'm sleeping much more as needed. It's a gift to myself, because I want to improve my health.

Ps. Sorry post is so long :D.

Dear Manu, some good advice here from Cherry.. remember if you feel unwell after putting nothing INTO your body, it is likely that you are being made unwell by something that was in you before you stopped putting things in. But that what made you feel unwell was hidden inside your tissues, until you started using your stores of fat. Then, because the fat volume is reduced, it can no longer hold onto all those toxins and it gets into your blood. That affords you the opportunity to eliminate them also.. which is why I promote active, rather than passive, fasting.

Thanks a lot for taking time to write a long reply @cherrybomb.. nd i completed day-1. Happy for that. I felt bad when i failed for four days continuously trying to fast. nd I somehow prefer pure fast Cherry.. though ur idea is great. I basically love water thn flavoured drinks.
