Should I stop fasting?

Day 24. My feet hurt and knees are swollen. Feels like a major gout attack. I took 800mg of ibuprofen, but still can’t sleep.

Same thing happened last year at almost exactly same time. I had to break fast on 26th day.

On one hand it’s like my body is telling me that it’s some kind of a limit, but on another my tongue is still coated and I know that cleansing isn’t done yet.

What should I do?

Any suggestions? Fast Doctor?

Please bear in mind dear gsonik, no one can give more than generic ideas based on this information. For professional advice you need to personally consult a professional.

Some questions:
1. During this fast, what did you do to help your body get rid of the mobilized toxins?

2. What did your last meal before the fast consists of?

3. Is it possible to have your uric acid levels measured? (Our nurses do it with a simple instrument the size of a blood sugar meter used by diabetics.)

Some general advice:
You achieve the same cleansing with repetitive short fasts as with one long fast, particularly if you habitually repeat them often and regularly. Only for healing purposes do we advocate long fasts, but then under good supervision.

Andre,

I started my water fast on January 7th. Last meal was dinner at Chinese there for something fatty.

It’s a strictly water fast on carbonated mineral water. I workout, play racquetball, do spin class, go to sauna… and work full time.

At this time I would not go to check uric acid level.
All this time I did my soda regiment to prevent form gout attack.

After this fast I'll do 36 hours every week as I didi last year.

Good.

Please note that you should try to do the 5 steps of the elimination cycle in immediate succession to be effective.

Concerning the "soda regimen" if I understand it correctly: As you will read on

www.drgourmet.com/askdrgourmet/gout-controversy.shtml

baking soda might help form less uric acid KIDNEY STONES but has little if any effect on gout itself, as it will never reach the joints where the crystals actually precipitate. It can also be metabolically disruptive.

I wish you good response to the weekly fast.

gsonic65 are you exclusively consuming carbonated water? If so I wonder if this may be one of the causes?

Breaking my fast,

Seems to be painless suffering. Will continue intermediate ones a week.
I guess my body just react this way.

David,

I don’t think it’s because of mineral water. Andre explain in one of my topics.

Here is the site I’ve sent you before.
It’s been a year since I stopped using Allopurinol and switch to ½ teaspoon of soda twice a day.

Dr. your advise to try and fast one day a week makes a lot of sense and its helped me after my long december fast. I do however feel like doing longer than one day a week. In principal, would going 3 days straight or 3 days intermittment each week be bettter for someone? thanks

Dear Marc, I would advise being open to your body's suggestions. One day (that is, about 30 hours, as it includes both nights) is the bare-bones minimum. But you don't HAVE to break the fast that morning if you don't feel like... you can do 3 consecutive days one week, every second day another week, combinations of these, and more or less days varying from 1 to 5 per week, For example. Variety is, after all, the spice of life. And being open to your body's suggestions will enhance the communication between mind and body... which is, after all, the most important and reliable source of information about your state of health and what is most appropriate for you right now..
