Oh sorry! Didn't mean/don't mean to bring it to your awareness. I just read your goals and saw some similarities there :).

Ock- I don't know how you can run while fasting. Probably because I can barely run 2 miles when not fasting. :)

Shant- Actually I'm glad you brought it up. In my experience, things heal faster when I focus and maybe even do a little energy work in that general Chakra area.

Weird little side not. I keep having this unusual sensation in the upper right quadrant of my abdomen. It's like a spasm, but I swear it feels just like a baby kick in the third trimester (there is less than 0% chance that I am pregnant). It isn't painful at all, but it does give me a small case of nostalgia... my babies are 17,16,13, and 6.

Anyway it's right under my ribs. Anyone else ever experienced anything like this?

Lisa,

I have experienced some spasms in prior fasts. Thus far (I'm currently about 5.5 days into it) I have felt only euphoria. The great news so far (and I may be a bit premature here) is that I am able to run 5-6 miles without any problem to this point. Tomorrow's (and especially Sunday's = the beginning of day eight) runs will be interesting for sure. I doubt I will be doing any distances longer than this.

I wonder if the spasms you may be feeling have anything to do with repair work being done? I know I've read that older injuries are eventually repaired if the fast continues onward long enough. I even read where a childhood injury that one might have had can finally be fully repaired since before the fast the body never had a chance to have the mechanisms frequently devoted to the work of digestion now focused solely elsewhere. In other words, with the digestive system resting, the body can look to working on other things. However, if I'm not mistaken, I believe the fast needs to be in about the third week (or longer) for this healing process to commence. But I'd like to hear from specialists on this, as I'm just going by what I've read over the past three or four years.

Areas of specialty and interests: Canon and Fugue; Greek and Latin language and literature; Marathoning and Ultramarathoning; Martial Arts (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Shotokan {Kissaki-Kai} Karate); Medieval and Renaissance music notation; Television series (All In the Family; Charmed, Dark Shadows, Lost, The Outer Limits, Roswell, Star Trek); Theology; Twelfth- and thirteenth-century conductus,...

Does anyone knows what happen to lisaism? I wanted to know more about her spiritual experiences... I am intrigued by the breakthroughs people get when they pray and fast.

odkeghem...

In deed, I had like 9 years ago a long fast of 75 days, first month with juices, then water, so I had this horrible pain in my hand around the 65 day, and I just couldn't ben the hand for a day, and when I was little i had hurt it.

The doctor there supervising it, told me the same, in fact he says that the recoveries/illness go backwards, so by the end of the fast I was healing mostly thing earlier in my life... I didn't pay much attention then, I was only happy about the weight loss until now..

Ilovefasting,

Hi. No, I don't know what happened to Lisaism. I wrote to her a few times via PM back when she was posting, and at the time her fasts were going very well. It would be good to hear from her again.

Has anyone here ever tried a 40-42 or so day fast before? I know some posters have (rightly) said not to plan the length of your fasts ahead of time, since it can result in you ignoring valuable biofeedback. Still, I can't help but contemplate what the experience of a longer fast like that would feel like. I have been tempted to try an extended fast for quite some time.

Hungry Caveman did a couple of forty-seven day fasts. It would be good to get his perspective again on the subject, but he too seems to have disappeared. I will never forget his motto while fasting: "Seal the lips!" :)

I wanted people to write more on their spiritual aspects of fasting. Specially for the long fast like 40 days as well... In fact you just inspire me to open a new topic... ;)
