Hello... Im very serious with my fasting...I want to free myself and clear my head, reset myself emotionally, psychologically and spiritually...but my problem is on my first few days of fasting I easily get tempted by cravings and so i end up giving in...in the end im more frustrated and disappointed..I want to break this cycle and just get through my 10 days of fasting or more...

Anybody out there who want to be my buddy or mentor? :)

I'm here to help. If you get through 3 days, those are the worst. After that you feel pretty normal most of the time. My suggestion is to KEEP BUSY. And stay away from food. Don't look at cook books, avoid tv commercials. Stay away from the places at work where they have food stashed. Remember this, hunger pangs come in waves. They build in intensity, then they fade away. If you feel an urgent need to eat, change your scenery. Get up, go for a walk, read the forum here, read old blogs, do some research on fasting. Stay away from people who want to stuff you with food. YOU CAN DO THIS! Believe in yourself.

If you guys don't mind a fat ape fasting along side with you, I'm here too. Wasn't sure today or tomorrow but after seeing you guys on day 1 today, TODAY IS THE DAY!

Lisa, I have been thinking of your advice earlier in the thread ... before on my previous [up to] 2 day fasts, I was watching youtube videos on food LOL! Not going to do that this time ...

Let the hunger wave come and try to push me down, this time it won't because I'm prepared this time.

I WILL DO THIS and this year when I see my reflection in the river water, it will be a lean mean ape and not the fat a## ape you see before you today!

There is what 4 of us fasting on this thread together? LETS DO THIS!!!!!!

After previous failures, I know most of this (if not all?) is mental, mind over body. So, as lunch approaches, .. wow, just now my stomach growled ... anyway, I have decided on an image to concentrate on today, which is me wearing a speedo. If I concentrate on the image, hairy butt and all, it almost makes me want to vomit. Well, just thought I'd share that, it's my day one image I am concentrating on to keep those food urges smacked down.

I have started and broke on day 2-3 that I'm getting so frustrated already. But I really really need to do this. Or I won't feel complete but a failure. SO LET'S DO THIS BUDDIES!!!!

@jimmy2fat... LOL! Welcome! The more the merrier! Yes I agree that it's more of mind over matter. And that's what's hard about it!! Although for me what really works is watching the food network and pretend I'm eating them and it does work! It also reminds me that I if I'm going to break my fast , it should be for a food that's way worth it and not just some regular junky fast food that readily available for us. It should be as yummy and delectable as the one we see in food network!

mhaiyarn, food network hmmmm.... well I thought watching youtube videos on food helped me, but ultimately I caved before so this time I'm going with Lisa's advice since she is experienced at this.

If you are struggling, try this, make yourself a nice hot cup of water and sip it as if it were coffee or tea. I'm doing that right now and it's good. Just about to microwave myself up another hot cup as a matter of fact. Also, close your eyes and imagine my hairy large butt in a speedo, if that isn't making you lose your appetite you are giving me too much credit in your imagination ....

mhaiyarn, since you are struggling, thought I would post about my entire weopon stockpile that I have prepared for this early battle. Looking forward to Lisa's input on weopons 3 and 4, which I think are subtle enough to still remain within a water fast if used in moderation:

First Line of defence:
1. Strong mental image of disgust, re: hairy butt/speedos
2. Sipping cups of hot water, same as you would sip

Second Line of defence (the enemy is in your face):
3. Sip hot cup of green tea. By green tea I mean the actual high quality chinese tea leaves (not lipton for example) found at an oriental grocery store. Tip: Pour hot water over the leaves, let it sit 5 minutes and leaves should stay at bottom.
4. Seltzer water with a couple of drops of lemon juice.

Hope the above helps. Btw, I'm planning on going to sleep early tonight ... just want to get this first day under my belt.

Remember myaiyarn, quitting is not an option, get mad and put on your game face!

I have to make mine day one tomorrow. I failed today and ate a bunch. I start in 2 min at 9pm. I'm going to fast dry at first, then transition to water. The good thing for me is I have my 10 day water fast that I just finished. That is going to be quite an inspiration for me since I know I can do it and that I felt really pretty good after the second day. I'm going to encourage all of us here that we can do this!! Just think if you are one day ahead of me, you're that much closer to feeling pretty good WHILE fasting. WE can do this!

Hi Lisa,

Well you posted 5 min. ago, so you are officially with us now! WELCOME!! I'm really glad you are fasting with us, what an inspiration!

You are right about the waves. I was feeling pretty good, took an hour and half nap and woke up ravenous! Kept telling myself it would pass. I had to fight back with my strongest weopon, a cup of hot green tea with a squirt of lemon juice. It tasted great and worked wonders. I have just sat down with my second cup and while I type this the wave is subsiding and so I can claim victory against this first wave of enemy hunger. Not sure if I would have survived if I didn't have this tea and lemon juice handy, but I did, and so here I still stand.

Yay! More people! I'm so happy we're all in it together :D :D

For some reason I've been having issues getting onto the site

I'm doing quite well - I'm at 10.27 AM of day 3 (I started at like 8pm,have had 3 nights) and today is HEAPS easier than yesterday (or so it seems!) I don't feel as down.. I am realllyyy looking forward to the end of this fast though... It's such a mental thing, isn't it?

Last night was pretty horrible - I have been having the most vivid dreams nonstop. One of them was eating lamingtons (which i normally wouldnt even like!), the other was scavenging Lindt Orange/Almond chocolate and the last was eating Toblerone.I love chocolate so much - and clearly I am addicted!! I kept waking up and thinking DAMN I've ruined my fast and then realising that I've been dreaming... and feeling relief. Guess I'm hungry :/

Ive been keeping the fluids up- have had sooo much water!! I tried to do the same hike today as I did on day 1 but only lasted about 15 minutes return... Probably will go and lay by the beach for a bit, then head back when the sun is strongest to avoid headstroke/dehydration...

How are you guys??

Hi Ramble bee, great to hear you are going strong! Had to search google images to see what lamingtons are .. Woah! Had to close that image quick!

Try not to think about ending it. Keep strong with your goal, being day 3 you have accomplished so much and you can do so much more!

You are ahead of me by two days, look forward to your posts!!

Haha ohh yeah - I'm Australian, lamingtons are as well :) hehe

I'm kinda bummed that I dont have a scale with me to see what the effects of this fast are day by day (I'm on vacation). But at the same time, I'm not fussed because it would perhaps dishearten me (or I'd see weight loss and be like, okay, all done!)

You're right - I should just focus on it day-by-day! I'm SO determined to make it to day 10 though because this is the best opportunity I have to do it! I'm heading back to Aussie Land (I'm in Thailand in a bungalow by the beach at the moment) in 11 days and I KNOW that that the distractions at home will make this challenge a whole lot harder!

Hope your first day is good!! Have you done a fast before?

I am doing fine jimmy.. Thanks for asking. I started myself on dry fast for 36 hrs. One hour at a time. They say that a dry fast is an equivalent of 3 days water fast. I tried the dry fast before and it seems to be easier , I don't feel hungry as much as when I'm on water fast. And my ketones level increase faster than when I'm on water fast. So wish me luck! How are you doing?
@lisa so I guess we are on this together. I officially started myself on sat at 5pm on dry fast. And I'm at work right now. Thank God no food present ! I'm so happy. Jut keeping myself busy!!

mhaiyarn, wow .. dry fast ... how is that going today?

Ramble bee, it's not 10 days anymore, it's counting down every day. YOU CAN DO IT!

Lisa, how is your new day 1 coming along? Many thanks for posting about how hunger comes AND GOES, in waves ... saved my butt yesterday.

Well, I'm doing good. Day 2 and hunger is low key and bearable, but last two times I caved on day 2. NOT THIS TIME!! This big fat ape is hunkered down in his fox hole waiting for that surprise hunger wave to come ... this time I will survive ... WE will survive!!! Like he said in gladiator .. HOLD THE LINE!!! If the hunger hits hard, remember what Lisa said, it's a wave and will pass .. sip hot water, drink a hot green tea with lemon if you have to ... but bear with it till it passes!!!
