electrolytes while fasting?

I am about to start a 10-day liquid-only fast (I am fasting in support of the hunger strikers at Guantanamo Bay). I will do this one and then see how it went and what I learned from it, and then in August I plan to start an open-ended one. My question is about electrolytes. I read about them on a fasting blog, and it said they could be a huge help. I barely know what electrolytes are, something about Gatorade, right? My concern is that, while right now I'm not working, I do still drive about a hundred miles a week as a food bank volunteer, and want to make sure that I can drive safely. Could you let me know what you know about them? Are they helpful, where do I get them, how do I take them? Thanks.

There is a brand of bottled water here that contains electrolytes. It's called smart water and there are no calories nor artificial flavors or sweeteners. I have used this while water only fasting. I don't really feel you need to be concerned with electrolytes and I generally don't worry about it. To be honest, I just liked the shape of the bottle.

I'm guessing electrolytes aren't necessary unless you're doing a lot of exercise or working outside in the heat. You can find electrolyte tabs OTC in pharmacies or some workout stores. I use them when fasting because I run every day as well.
