I am going to start small and increase from there. I was able to get to about 24 hours yesterday. I am out of practice. I'm going to shoot for 36 hours this time. Thanks Acmar, glad you are feeling well.

Please keep in touch along the way, good luck Elizabeth C!!!! It sounds like we are doing simiar schedules of fasting. I intend to refeed and increase my exercise over the next month, and then possibly a 3-week fast.

This week, I have been able to increase my walking substantially, but the exertion of going upstairs, for example, is still difficult.

This is due to fluid retention in my legs, ankles, and feet. So, I am considering requesting fluid pills from my doctor, in order to reduce this swelling and begin more exercise.

Happily, I can report that my last bloodwork came back quite improved! Electrolytes, albumin, and most other levels were perfectly normal. Hemoglobin, while a little low, has increased a full point in 4 days! :-)

Dear acmaragh506, I am so happy to hear you are now re-feeding. Figuring what to eat after the fast can sometimes be nerve-racking. One of the problems I used to a have after fasting was the edema (swelling of my ankles). But - not any more, now. I think eventually the body adjusted or the kidneys are working well? But for what ever reasons, the longer you stick to fasting the body knows how to be well.

Good Luck and Happy Fasting!
Mrs. L.

Preaching aside, Jesus’ words and offer of the “Abundant Life” are well over 2,000 years old. Yet even in today’s fast-moving society, His Word is relevant to the 21st century as He offers us wisdom, which has the power to transform our lives.

Thank you for checking in with me, Mrs L!!! It is so helpful to know that you had some edema as well; I have not seen much of this in the fasting literature I have read.

So far, I am not stressing about re-feeding, as I know that there is always another fast and time to get to where I would like to be.

My current focus is on my health, so I am having comprehensive evaluations done - including cardiology, gastrology, and hematology.

So far, my intuition is to continue eating to rebuild my reserves, be active, and stay hydrated and positive. Seems to work well. :-)

I just read your entire journal. I did not realize you completed a 40 day fast and then started another soon after. Thats amazing. Hope you are having a good day today.

I have had a good week, refeeding and getting more exercise. Since tomorrow makes 30 days since ending my last fast, and Thanksgiving here in the US, I am considering a short fast prior to my birthday.

While my edema has improved greatly, I am still carrying excess water weight that has made me very physically uncomfortable. I foresee a 10-14 day fast being very beneficial.

After that I would immediately resume my alternate day fasting routine and exercise. In other good news, my blood work has come back largely normal. The only low levels are currently being checked by a hematologist. So, overall I am doing well. :-)

Hi Acmaragh,
I am just fininshing day 2 of a fast and I found it so helpful to reread your fasting journal. I love hearing how you fared day to day and I appreciate that you took the time to share, even between nausea episodes. It has also been helpful for me to make the time go faster while I am sitting here alone in my house, waiting until 10:30 when I pick up my daughter from work.

It is amazing that you are able to do nearly two 40 day fasts in a row. I am so inspired by you. I hope I can fast as long as I need to reach my goal.

Hello everyone, it has been a long time since my last post! I thank you so much, lisafast, for reading these posts and if they helped you that is even better!!

I have been refeeding and am happy to report good health overall (hematology and physical medical tests all normal).

Unfortunately, my weight has crept up a bit in the process, first from edema, and now due to having to eat more than I usually do.

So, I intend to start a mid-length fast this week. I will post here again when I begin. New year, more goals, fasting still a wonderful journey.

Here's to 2014. :-)

Day 1 of my first fast of 2014 has begun! I am feeling relieved to take a break from eating, a feeling that regular fasters may relate to. :-)

I had fatty meals yesterday as per Fasting Doctor recommendations, and have begun today dry fasting. I find that makes my transition easier. Later on and tomorrow I will begin drinking water.

Other than that I feel happy to devote the extra time freed by not worrying about food to MY DISSERTATION!!! I shall earn my PhD yet. :-)

Welcome back! Your posts always inspire me.

I have not found success yet, with fasting. Everyday I find a reason/excuse to shove things in my mouth. I know it's a habit and it's annnooooyyying.

I tried reading Brain over Binge. Found the part interesting about the animal brain and the instinct and habits we developed. I know, for me, it's just a matter of forming new habits.

I have created this ritual that everytime I go outside, I eat chocolate first. It's almost equivalent to a smoker needing a cigarette when they go outside. I need to stop this behavior. It makes me constantly crave something, every two hours.

So, for the rest of today, I am going to try to not do this. I think baby steps will help me get out of this pattern. If I can not do it for a day, or even more than 2 hours, it's a start!

Hope everyone is doing well. Hope I can get over this HUMP

Thank you Danielle, that means so much!! Unfortunately, I am on a medication right now that is simply NOT sitting well with an empty stomach, and this week I have a medical procedure which requires taking it.

So, alas, I have postponed the fast. It is disappointing, but the beauty of fasting is that it is always there as a viable option. I can get back to it soon.

Hope all is well, with those that read this thread and are on a fasting journey as well. :-)

Will post again when I am back in action.

I truly hope that these posts will still be of benefit, given my hiatus. :-)

Alas, I am back! Today is Day 1 of what will be a water fast of undecided length! I have visitors in town the next weeks, and it may be possible to continue my journey in their presence.

Regardless, I have today to do it and I'm doing it! Today has gone well so far, and I look forward to the peace I find during the start of a food hiatus. I slept well and feel good.

Here is to another fasting journey and Day 2!

Yay Acmaragh...the more the merrier.

Marc, will you be drinking coffee during this fast? I wonder if that affects the psoriasis.

I just mowed the freaking lawn, raked leaves, etc. SO MUCH ENERGY.

I will say, I am looking forward most to calming down, physically. I have been exercising for so long, I look forward to that moment in time, during my fast, where I literally have to stay in bed all day:::)) Anyone predict at what point that tends to happen?

Thank you :-) However, danielle, I think you meant this post for the March 2014 thread?

To answer your question, I found bedrest necessary between weeks 3 and 4 personally, but it truly varies by person.

Thank you Elizabeth C!!!! I am feeling well, and have recovered nicely.

Day 2 has been quiet and easy so far. I am not drinking much, and may day a day of dry fasting tomorrow.

I slept well and have felt wonderful mental clarity today as I worked.

Onto to Day 3. :-)
