Hero! You are the living proof that anything is possible. When i read the line that you were actually looking forward to staying at home, i wondered how is it good to stay at home and not find it challenging but then i realized you got to the point when you are disattached. Bravo!

Thank you for the skin tightening tip :). Have you considered scrubing the skin with a mixture of epsom salt crystals prior the treatment? Might also help.

Wow; thank you for your kind praise Shant!!! But many others such as Ockeghem have accomplished similar feats, and are certainly inspirational as well. Also, exfoliating before the skin treatment, yes!!! I read about it but forgot to try it out, so when I do the next treatment I will keep you posted on how it turns out!

As for today, I had a busy day, and found myself winded on even short flights of stairs. I rested frequently, however, as I have learned not to push my luck. I consumed roughly 40 oz. of water, which is less than desired but more than my average lately. I had little pain and have noticed even more tongue clearing!

I am so grateful to God and all the supporters on this site for seeing me through until now. Tomorrow begins Day 36, week 6!!!!!! It is so surreal, and incredible to know that I will meet my goal of a 40+ day extended fast.

My own personal strength has been tested, but I have made it through with wonderful support. Onto Day 36! :-)

Day 36 is coming to a close, and as usual I got tired quickly throughout the day. Mentally, however, I am still sharp, which is a relief.

I have been doing better with hydration, which is a major feat! I have also been blessed to be able to work from home as necessary. I truly hope that I will be able to have this luxury on my next fast, which will likely be starting next month.

I have deliberated on this, but I really feel that would be best for my health goals, after a very short break of refeeding.

Onto Day 37 :-)

Dear acmaragh506, I am so happy for you. Day 36 Wow! You're just one brave soul. I say more power to you!
I have just one question. Do you think, using the plane water enema helped you? You said it was your very first one. I understand that you did it again too. Thank you for your openness and simple way of communication. You're very generous in that sense.

Happy Fasting and keep on keeping on!

Onto Day 37 :-)

Dear acmaragh506, I noticed that you're planning already for your re-feeding. Please note that I only completed 11 days of water fast. The re-feeding part felt like a chore to me. I can only imagine how would the re-feeding will feel after 40 days.
Once you completed your water fast. I hope you will continue posting about your re-feeding.
Thank you.

Happy Fasting!

36 days is amazing! I'd love to know how you are feeling, emotionally and spiritually.

2 ?s came up for me...

1. If you did do a water enema, was there anything left inside you to come out? I would think after 36 days of not eating, there wouldn't be anything in your system.

2. What is the point of re-feeding? I just don't understand this part. I would think if you grow so accustomed to not eating, why would you want to eat?

Just curious...

Way to go !

Dear danielle, I know your question is to acmaragh506, but in the mean while, I like to give my two cents worth in regard to the concept of re-feeding. If I understand it correctly, re-feeding comes after the fasting is completed. I you go by the book, if you fasted for a week you need to do re-feeding at least for 3-4 days. Good, wholesome food. No junk.
I would only imagine about those brave souls who ventured for more that 15 or more days on water fast. It must take a lot of days to re-feed before going to eating normal food.
I understand that re-feeding is as important as the fast itself. I hope someone with longer days fasting will chime in here to give more impute on re-feeding.

Happy Fasting

Something happened today and it will only work in strengthening my resolve to fast. In a nutshell, I feel that the Universe keeps taking things away from me. It is trying to simplify my existence, and I don't know what it means exactly. I just know that it doesn't want me doing and acting the way I've been.

And so, something happened today. It was unpleasant and it is a change that will affect my lifestyle. However, it will force me to slow down and to not continue to do the things I've been doing. I guess sometimes you have to be pushed into a corner to make a change.

I am so happy to read your blogs and posts and comments. I can only keep the faith that fasting is going to be the greatest experience and give me exactly what I need. I've been lost in a haze of things that I DON'T need, and it has made me miserable.

Just wanted to share these thoughts with you. I hope you are all doing well and continuing on your journeys. And if you are struggling, look to the Universe and know you are not alone. The path will reveal itself, whether you want it to or not :)

Day 37 has been slightly rough, though I have been resting. I threw up bile again, but do not feel perturbed much since it happened before.

I will hydrate the rest of the evening. Also, I will address each question in a separate post danielle and Mrs. L!

I think I have noticed three sections of questions, two of which apply to both Danielle and Mrs.L. Thank you for your support and interest, by the way! :-)

1. Water enemas - Mrs. L, my enemas were actually lukewarm water mixed with epsom salt, rather than plain water enemas. I read that one tbsp of epsom salt per 2 qt. of water helps you maintain electrolytes. Danielle, it has been helpful for me because I have not been regular even when eating normally. Several schools of thought posit that you do still have "stuff" in you that may not be evacuated while fasting. Therefore, some fasting experts suggest daily enemas, which as the Fast Doctor states, seems highly unnecessary. One per week is more than sufficient for me.

2. Refeeding - Mrs. L, my refeeding will likely be very short next week, and it is mainly because my sister is visiting and does not support my fasting. I will have fasted 44 days by then. I will probably be starting again after a few days, so the break will only be 4 days or so. Danielle and Mrs. L, the reason for this is because I am anxious to get back to fasting after my sister's visit. I have quite a bit more weight to lose, but I have also started to experience some great release of cravings and anxieties that only deeper fasting gives me. Also Danielle, I cannot speak for others who do extended fasts, but my ultimate goal is not to stop eating altogether. It is to establish a healthier relationship with food, made easier by changing my food cravings and eating smaller amounts.

3. How I feel overall - Danielle, thank you for this question. The physical effects are tough!!!!!! But it has been wonderful to feel no tense and anxious cravings for food, no sweets cravings, and no reaction when others eat in my presence. Spiritually, I feel very calm and much happier, because I don't feel like food controls my mood and my whole day. That by far is the biggest gift. :-)

I hope those answers are helpful!

Day 38 has ended, and I experienced more of the same detox symptoms. I threw up a little more, but there was literally nothing in my stomach (not even bile). I can feel that I am dehydrated, but I do not wish to upset my stomach so I have taken small sips of water throughout the day.

I also did another enema, because I had stomach pains. It helped, though I was unable to take as much water as the last time. Afterward, I rested the rest of the day. It is difficult to manage these symptoms at times, but the incredible changes I have experienced physically and mentally are so much more important.

So on to Day 39. Already!!!

Day 39 has ended, and I have had yet more nausea and throwing up. Therefore, I will be ending this fast at 40 days, rather than 44.

I realized that listening to my body is crucial, and these symptoms are making it nearly impossible for me to hydrate, sleep, or complete necessary tasks. Therefore, it is time to refeed, replenish my nutrient stores even if just a little, then begin again for another 40 days.

It also occurred to me that my empty stomach is part of why the nausea will not cease. So a small break is best all around, especially given that my sister has postponed her visit.

So here is to the *almost* end of fast #1, listening to my biofeedback, and self-care. Onto day 40. :-)

Congratulations on day 40, acmaragh.

Could you please summarize your overall fasting experience? Days that now you think weere the toughest, how fasting influenced your emotional state, what would you have done differently, how much did you sleep, when did you feel most energized (time of the day), how you body/skin/hair changed and most importantly, how does your body reacts to reintroduction of calories in? It would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

You mentioned your sister is coming = you are going to refeed for the next 8 days (challenging!) and then hop onto another 40?

Just want to check in. As always, I am inspired and learning from all of your posts.

My fasting hasn't been perfect, but I have been eating much less and trying to curb my behaviors. I think the behaviors are more challenging than the actual food.

Last night, after a day of vigorous exercise and sunshine, I felt extremely light. I drank distilled water, was not constipated and just felt so light on my toes. Almost as if I could fly. This is a new feeling and I look forward to keeping it going !

Happy Fasting xo

Lisafast, thank you for your wonderful praise! I have said before and will say again that the support I receive through this journal has been really humbling. Also, Shant, you ask some wonderful questions that I will respond to in detail tomorrow!

As for today, Day 40, I am grateful to God for the strength to reach this point. I am also proud to be recognizing that I need a small break, and excited for the second portion of my fast! My nausea was present once again, which confirms for me that I am making the right choice.

So, tomorrow I will be drinking diluted fruit juice and eating small bits of watermelon and possibly pear throughout the day. I do not expect the nausea to disappear immediately, so I will also hydrate and go from there.

As usual, I will post here daily. Leg one of the journey is completed, but there is much more to share. :-)

My first day of refeeding has been difficult since I threw up on an empty stomach, but encouraging later in the day. I began eating with diluted pomegranate juice, and watermelon. I am a bit tired of water, so I drank mostly juice. After a few hours, I threw up again unfortunately.

This prompted me to try slightly more substantial food, because the lack of food perpetuates the nausea. So I had clear broth with some saltine crackers, which I was able to keep down!!!!!! This was very late in the day, however. So, I will not be eating much when I awake and do not wish to increase calories this quickly again.

To answer Shant's questions:
1) My overall fasting experience and emotional state: Grueling yet transformative. Freeing from cravings and food addictions that held me, and calming to feel content without my major vice and addiction to eating.

2) Toughest days, sleep, energy: Nausea and incessant back pain were the toughest physical symptoms for me because they make it hard to even leave my apartment. Mid-morning is when I felt most energized, because I would shower and hydrate upon waking. People often mention needing less sleep while fasting, but not me! I slept a good 8-10 hours per night for the most part, and sometimes napped. :-)

3) Lessons, changes, and second fast: I will definitely make sure to do elimination cycles more on my next fast. I wish I had done more, because detoxing was rough on me. So, in addition to my skin treatments, that will increase. My skin has many spots on the back from the elimination of toxins, but as mentioned this does not phase me. There was little other skin change or hair change. Body wise, I can estimate having lost 50 pounds and roughly 11 inches total. :-) I cannot speculate about water weight vs. muscle, etc. But I am happy with the changes for the most part. I will refeed for slightly less than a week, even though my sister is not visiting, then begin the second fast. This is a brief refeed, but I know all too well how the weight can return and how hard it is to get back to "fasting mode". I also feel confident that another longer fast can get me close to my desired health goals, and I am more than ready for that!

Today marks my first nausea free day in a week, and I am thrilled!!! I hydrated more, and was able to eat half an apple and some small crackers for breakfast.

I had clear broth and crackers for lunch, and a big fresh salad of lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and avocado dressed with lemon for dinner. Absolutely divine and very filling!!!!!!

As mentioned, I am not currently concerning myself with weight regain, calories, etc. much since I will begin my second fast soon, and lost a lot of nutrients due to my nausea.

Overall I felt more energy today, much less fatigue, and so grateful to have no digestive issues. A big relief for full refeed day 2. :-)
