Can I do some exercise on the first three days of my water fast?

My dear Clara, exercise is an integral part of the detox cycle to which fasting creates the ideal background. Please study the 5-step elimination cycle and do apply it as soon as you contemplate a fast. It makes fasting easier and more effective. Plus, in my experience, safer.

André,

I can't recall in which thread I read some posts of yours that mentioned pH balance. I tried a keyword search, but 'pH' is too short a subject term to be very effective in yielding any results.

I know I've read that during a fast it's beneficial that the number be between 'this' and 'that,' but I can't recall what those numbers are. If my ph balance were to rise above or drop below the number at the high and low ends of the spectrum, respectively, would I experience symptoms that this has taken place? I am asking so that I might know what to look for in the event that this ever occurred with me during a prolonged fast. Many thanks.

The term pH (potenzH) or hydrogen ion concentration is much abused, dear Ockeghem. Blood pH varies maximally between 7.35 and 7.45. Measuring pH anywhere else actually makes very, very little sense as the body uses other fluids to balance other elements. The use of the term "acid" or "alkaline" is wholly inappropriate when referring to the whole body as there are many compartments. Urine, for example, helps balance a lot of different systems and the pH there can be anything from 4 to 9 without it being any reflection on the pH in the stomach, blood, CSF, bile, cytoplasm or wherever else you wish to measure it.

The word "acid" has negative connotations and it is abused by pseudo-scientists to mislead people. Bear in mind we are built of acids: Amino acids (proteins), Nucleic acids (genetic material) and many others.

There is no such thing as "my pH balance". You will have to specify which fluid you refer to. I consider it best to just flatly ignore it.
