Hi fasters, so today i'm starting on an intermittent fasting protocol that would be lasting five months. That is the time i'm giving to see if it works and whether i can be able to adopt it over the long term

So my aim in fasting is to lose weight, and my goal is losing about 50 to 57 pounds. I currently weigh 197 pounds and i'm 5 ft 4 in. So im quite obese.

I have in the past done 1-3 day water fasts, and last week, i extended to a 6 day water fast, which was great. But i'm poor in refeeding, so although i lost 12 pounds over the 6 day period, i have gained back 10 pounds, lol.

I suppose a large chunk is from water weight, but i have decided to give a regular intermittent fasting approach a chance: take the weight off slowly over a lengthened predetermined time frame. I think by taking this approach, i wont see a bounce back in weight like i did after the 6 day water fast.

Its only after this that i may consider a more lengthened water fast next year. May be 30 to 40 days. :)

Last year and this year, my weight ranged between 187 and 199 pounds. Since 2011, I have gained about 50 to 60 pounds, which is quite unhealthy (desk job and inactivity). I used to normally weigh about 59 to 63 kgs, i think that is about 130 to 140 pounds.

My final goal is to weight between 120 and 125 pounds, although the immediate goal over the 5 month period is to weight 140-150 pounds. Having suffered a miscarriage recently, i want to be in tip top physical condition the next time i'm pregnant.

That said. I would be fasting on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays to give some normalcy to my week. This would be complete water fasts with no meals. The other days i would just be eating normally until i'm full. I'm not great with calory counting. I would also mix in some exercises for toning and strength. I have a P90X one that i have never really started on.

I would be taking weekly measures and post them on this thread on Wednesdays.

I think by joining this forum, i'm able to interact with like minded people and also feel obliged to continue with the fasts even when im lazy. ;)

Dear Rael, your approval for the first post must have slipped through the admin net. I do apologise. I was not around for some of the summer so was not as attentive to approvals as I should have been. I hope you are doing well with the IFing and would love to hear about your progress.

Wow, Finally. Thank you. :woohoo: I think i must have overacted with my messages to have my post approved, lol  .

I did start the intermittent fasting protocol, and did it for about a month. I lost about 9 pounds.

Although i strayed from my plan since mid August and haven't really fasted, i have maintained the lost weight. I have had my weight ranging between 187 and 190 pounds in the past month. I'm currently at 190. :)

Having strayed, i'm thinking of developing another fasting plan that would ensure i remain on course with my December goals, since i only have about three months till December 15th. Im calling this my "end year resolution". :)

So, i think i will prolong my fast days a bit.

Rather than go for a longer fast like 21 or 40 days, i will do what i know i can and have done before. I will be fasting for six days a week, and eating on one of the days in the week. Im thinking of making my feed days to be on sundays, since I'm free and socialising a lot than other days. Its good time to make some healthy meal too.

I will start on this fasting protocol from 15th September, and use this one week (from 8th) to clean up my diet so that i dont face some massive detox symptoms during the first six days.

I shall be updating this thread every Sunday on my progress. Im so glad my post is finally visible. With this, i feel that im accountable and hence have to ensure I accomplish what i set out to do. So, thank you David. Just being part of the forum is a motivating factor in itself.

Week 1: Day 1:

So i have started my fast today as i had planned earlier on. My last meal was at 9pm last night, so i'm about 15 hours into my fast because its noon here. So far the fast is going well, i have not been hungry or weak. I haven't drank any water though. By the end of today however, i plan to drink 2 liters of water. I will start out with warm or hot water as it is easier for me to take in quite a lot of that.

I guess i have to wait until the second day to start getting the hunger pangs. I always give up on my second or third day. This time, i hope that i endure.

My starting stats
Weight: 194lb
Waist (around belly button): 42in
BMI: 33.3
Body shots: front and side

Until tomorrow peeps

Day 2:

Today has been tough. The hunger pangs kicked in and i was feeling weak and tired. I took a 10 min walk five hours ago and i was hot all the time. Even right now im feeling hot and sweaty and im just sitting down. Im sooooo hungry, i have been thinking of food the whole of today. I even browsed delicious chicken wing recipes and almost went out to get me some. The second day is the day that i always give in, but im going to try and beat this hunger. aaaaagh, im so hungry.

I'm now 44 hours into my fast, woop woop. I hope i make past this day, coz the hunger is just too much. Its not like yesterday. yesterday i was fine the whole day, i didnt even feel hungry. Today is horrendous. I just want the ketosis to get started already.

until tomorrow peeps

Day 3:

This is day 3, im 60 hrs into my fast already. My lips are dry, and im feeling a little weak. My hunger however, seems to have subsided. im just tired abit, and my tongue is only slightly white. I think of food, but not as much as yesterday. My water intake has been wanting, but im hoping to up this from tomorrow to about 3 liters.

I took a walk early in the morning at 6:30 and felt so good. The fresh cold air and the walk was rejuvinating, especially since im feeling a bit hot rather than cold like i do in my previous fasts.

I feel the need to post here is really motivating me to continue with the fast. Otherwise, i would have probably eaten by yesterday, lol.

Day 4

Today is day four and im 90 hours into my fast, yipee!!. I woke up feeling ok, and my tongue is white. I also have bad breath irrespective of the fact that i have washed my mouth three time so far. My energy has been good too. Although i have a slight headache, its not debilitating. By yesterday evening my hunger was gone. However, today im feeling slightly hungry. i think its because its that time of the month.

As i was relaxing in bed in the morning, my mind veered off to long forgotten memories, which were clear as day, as though i was there. It was like seeing my life flash before my eyes, and experience the feeling i experienced then, especially childhood. I liked that because they were really good memories, others were irrelevant, yet all were good. Gave me some kind of peace, tranquility and contentment.

Until tomorrow :)

Day 5

Today is day 5, and i'm 107 hours into my fast. Today has been alright, i dont feel hungry nor weak. My headache is gone, although my tongue is still white and i got bad breath. I feel like i can live like this for days, lol. I however feel like my throat is blocked with heavy mucus that is not moving, but im hoping that will clear up as i continue with my fast in the next weeks.

Funny enough this time i have not had dreams about food like i did in my previous fasts. I also find this fast to be way easier than previous ones. Im so glad its day five. tomorrow is day 6, the last day of my fast this week, and then i will refeed on sunday over a 12 hour window period, 6am to 6pm. After that, i will do the 6 day fast all over again and repeat the process until December 15th.

I think this 6:1 way of fasting is pretty manageable to me. I'll post my stats weekly, every sunday morning before i refeed.

Until tomorrow.

Day 6

Its the last fast day for this week, woop woop!! Im 135 hours into my fast, and although my fast will officially end tonight at 9pm, i would not eat until tomorrow 7am.

Today has been alright, although i feel im sluggish and have a slight ache at the back of my head. My tongue is still coated and although i feel the emptiness of my belly, im not hungry. I dont think about food too. I have been so busy this week with work that there hasnt been time to obsess about food. I have also had good energy, especially since day four, although im sluggish and need to get up from a position slowly.

Im doing this 6:1 thing for 12 weeks and see where it takes me health-wise and weight-wise. So until tomorrow to see where my stats are at. xo

End of Week 1: Day 7

Today is day 7, and i have broken my fast on the 154th hour of my fast. I have taken fruit salad and feel quite full after eating only a small amount. Funny how i dont feel like eating the things i had been craving and thinking about earlier on in my fast.

Tomorrow i will start my fast all over again. I will actually start it today at 6pm, that is the end of my 12 hr feeding window. I took my stats before i broke my fast.

Stats at end of week 1
Weight: 184lb, 10 pounds lost in week 1
Waist (around belly button): 40in, 2 inches lost in week 1
BMI: 31.6, still obese

Week 2: Day 1

Today is day 1 of my second week of intermittent fasting 6:1 style, where i fast for six days and eat on one day. Yesterday, i indulged in some rich and healthy meals, and i added about 3.6 pounds to my weight. (I keep ignoring the decimals, but i suppose they matter, lol.)

Today morning, i weigh 187.6 pounds. I suppose part of it is also water weight that had been lost and then gained. But im glad im starting my fast again. Im not hungry now and im feeling active. Yesterday i also felt super active, and was not my normal sluggish person.

I started my fast yesterday at 6pm, so up until now, it has been 17 hours since i started my fast. Im hoping to lose more pounds this week. No hurry and no worry, haba kwa haba (little by little). I tried some exercise on my sixth day last week and it didnt work out well. I was so weak and tired out quickly. So i will just stick to my normal 30 min walks i take during my fasts. Thats all for today.

Catch you later, xo.

Day 2

Hello people, its day two of my fast in my second week. I'm 38 hours into my fast, and today unlike last week on my second day, i'm feeling ok. Although i have thoughts of food and can feel my tummy turn, im not really hungry. I hope i enter into ketosis real fast this week.

My energy level is good, i got good concentration, and i have been doing good at work. So im happy where im at this week, and what i have accomplished so far. My tongue is not coated yet, so probably i may feel hungry later on, but for now im good.

Im happy with my weight loss, and i hope i average about 6 pounds a week of fat loss. By the 12th week, i will have met my long term goal of getting between 120-125 pounds, or even about 115, which is the standard for someone my height.

Catch you later. :)

Day 3

Hello people, today is day 3 of my fast this week, i'm on the 66th hour of my fast. Yesterday at night i had some slight hunger pangs but i slept it off, and woke up today feeling ok. I have not been hungry today, and my energy is good enough. I have a slight headache though, and my tongue is coated white. It has been so since day 2 night, so i think im in deep ketosis.

I have been thinking of food and browsing recipe sites, particularly looking at green bananas stew. But I have not had a strong urge to want to eat, because my motivation to finish the fast is stronger at this point. I'm glad that this is a lot easier this week than it was last week.

Catch you later, xoxo

Day 4 Update:

So i slipped up a bit ate a bit of food in my 90th hr of fasting, precisely 812 calories. I ate an orange, smokies, and a local dish made of mashed potatoes, pumpkin leaves, and corn, accompanied by some shredded raw cabbage, carrots, tomatoes, onions and beet. Its not like i was hungry. I hated the bitter taste in my mouth.

I was also having a stressing day at work. There is just a lot of work now that it is almost the end of the month, and i got to get some things done by tomorrow or at least Monday. So a little fuel up was good for me.

I made the conscious decision to eat, so its not like i'm regretting and beating myself now. My goals for the week may be derailed because of this, but i will try to put in an hour of workout each day for the remaining 3 days and see where this gets me.

xo.

Update:

Hey people, hope you are all doing great. I'm fine and doing alright.

Over the past one week i have not fasted. I had a lot of work, and had to deal with some personal issues too. But this week I'm coming back with a bang, lol.

I plan to go on a 10 day fast (240hrs), and when i reach that target and see that i can continue, i would try to get to 21 days (504hrs). I like counting in terms of hours because they seem so few when i do that unlike in terms of days, lol. I'm in my first hour of the fast.

My weight gain as a result of my eating for the past week hasn't been bad. On Monday of week 2 i was 187.6 pounds, and by Thursday of that week had dropped to 182 pounds. I'm 186.2 pounds pounds now, and my belly is looking a lot flat (39in around belly button). That is about 8 pounds lost since i started, yet i only stayed true to my fast plan in the first week. So, in the next weeks i hope to increase the weight loss.

Sometimes its kind of frustrating that my weight loss is so slow. I have heard of some people who lose up to 18 pounds fasting for six days, and i only lost 10 pounds in my first week. But i guess that's life, and people are different. I think i wont be measuring myself several times a day so that i don't get frustrated with how slow the weight is coming off. Besides, it is said that on a fast, a person normally loses a pound a day of fat. So probably a person with a large weight loss may mean a lot of water retention.

I think i can also add some exercises. I read somewhere here that its possible to work out when in a fast to lose more pounds, and in the past week, i have felt very active and somehow light and lively. So i will give the exercises a chance and see if i can up the pounds i loose.

Catch you later, XO.

Day 1 (Day 5- Week 3)

Hey Fasters,

Hope you are all fine and doing well in your fasts as i am.

Today is day one of my fast. I have decided to fast for 10 days after having eaten for a week. I want to do this before resuming my 6:1 12-week plan. I'm in my 3rd week of the plan and i derailed for most of week 2 and week 3.

I'm in my 19th hour of the fast, and I'm feeling hungry although its not intense. I have also began feeling a bit weak. By the way, i noticed that when come from my fast, after the first meal, i kind of feel weak, and then may be after 2 hours or more, i get my strength.

So far the fast has been ok and i hope it continues being so over the next coming days.

Catch you later, XO.

Day 2 (10 day Fast)

Hello fasters,

I hope you are all doing great in your fasts. Mine is also proceeding quite ok, except for the hunger.

Im 43 hours into my fast and im feeling quite hungry. I have constant thoughts of food, and have been thinking of everything i could eat. Im really hoping i get through this day, and the hunger quickly subsides.

I have been thinking of doing some crazy challenge once i hit my goal in December. Something like going on a long trekk from one town to another just walking and resting in motels along the way. My family think im crazy, and my brother was suggesting probably a challenge like doing a perfect split (180 degrees). Im still considering a number of ideas, because i want to celebrate the end of my year and achievement of my weight loss goal in some phenomenon and out of the box way. lol

Otherwise, until tomorrow, XO.
